On February 24, 1902 the Woods County Commissioners allowed the town of New Augusta to change its name to Carmen.
The most significant structure to be built in Carmen was the Home for Children, which was built in 1906. The building was dedicated April 26th, 1907, By then Past Grand J. B. A. Robertson.
