Biography of Charles George Hubbard, I

Charles George Hubbard I, was born 14 Feb 1887 at Mt. Vernon, Knox county, Ohio to Henry (DeForrest) Hubbard and Alice (Madalynn) Matheney. He was the youngest of approximately 18 children according to family rumors. Circa 1890, when Charles George was about 3 years old, he was separated from both parents, and was either placed in an orphanage in Kansas City, Missouri area, or arrived at Kansas City on an orphan train. Charles George and his brother, Fred, age 5 at that time had been together, but had become separated.

Daniel Harader, who had been in the 1889 Land Run at Guthrie, Logan county, Oklahoma picked Charles George Hubbard up at Kansas City. The Haraders wanted to adopt Charles George, but couldn't because both of his parents were living. Daniel and his wife, Kate (Catherine) reared Charles George as their son in the Guthrie, Crescent, Kingfisher and Hennessey areas. At that time, Charles George began using the name George C. Harader, which he continued to go by until about 1906 or 1907.

Charles "George Harader" Hubbard married Cora M. Tibbits about 1905, probably at Guthrie. On 15 October 1905, their daughter, Dorothy May "Harader" Hubbard was born at 2124 Belfountain, Kansas City, Missouri where Cora's mother lived. About 1907, a son, Elmo E. Hubbard was born, but died in infancy. Between the birth of Dorothy May and Elmo E., Charles "George Harader" Hubbard began using his birth surname of Hubbard. Sometime after Elmo's death 25 September 1908, Cora M. and Charles George divorced. The Haraders reared Dorothy May Hubbard as a foster child. Cora moved to Kansas City, Missouri and played piano for silent movies. She later remarried and had other children.

On 15 October 1915, Charles George Hubbard married Maud A. Robinson of Arkansas City, Cowley county, Kansas, at Guthrie. Maud was a niece of Daniel and Kate Harader. Currently, it is unknown what became of Maud.

About 1920, Charles George Hubbard and wife "Pet" moved to the Denver, Colorado area. In 1922, "Pet" died and was buried at Fairmont Cemetery, Denver, Colorado.

About 1924, Charles George married Grace Howard in Colorado. Their son, Charles George "Chuck" Hubbard, II was born 22 June 1925 in the Denver area. Charles George and Grace moved to Guthrie, Oklahoma in the late 1920s where Charles George ran a garage/service station/store called Lake View south of Guthrie on Hwy 77. They later moved to Englewood, Colorado.

Charles George and Grace divorced about 1944. On 15 December 1946, Charles George Hubbard, I, married Alice Marie Harrison in Colorado. They moved to Liberal, Seward county, Kansas, where their sons Kenneth Gene and Timmy Carl were born.

During his lifetime, Charles George (Harader) Hubbard worked as a telegrapher, clerk, mechanic, freelance photographer, teacher, and electrician. He died 24 April 1973 at Liberal, Seward county, Kansas and is buried at Liberal. His widow, Alice Marie remarried about 1985. She died 12 March 1996 and is buried at Liberal. Charles George Hubbard's sons, Kenneth Gene and Timmy Carl are still living.
