OIL MAN GIVES $50,000 MORE TO PLAN TO BUILD WADING POOLS FOR CHILDREN IN THREE STATES
Dateline Neosho, MO., Jan 8--Frank H. Reed, a millionaire oil man who lives in New York, announced another $50,000 gift to the Permanent Community Trust Fund to build wading pools in several states.  The article states that the fund has built a wading pool in Shawnee (lists other Oklahoma towns also).

102 TO FACE DRY LAW TRIAL, Oklahoma Officials are Accused in Case of Alleged Ring.
Report on trial starting in Federal court for 102 members of a "well-organized liquor ring which dominated the rich oil fields of Pottawatomie County for three years."
Defendants include: Ralph Pitman, County Attorney, former sheriff, Frank Fox.  Follow-up on articles from 1929--Jeff D. Harris was convicted and sentenced to 50 years in prison.  Thomason not tried  yet.

WIDOW TELLS OF PLEA TO BREAK UP RUM RING, Testifies That Oklahoma Sheriff Gave Son Job as 'Collector' for Gang.
Mrs. Laura Grace, widow of W.A. Grace, former Sheriff, and mother of Roy (Skinny) Grace, testified in Federal court that she had tried to get Sheriff Frank Fox to break up a widespread liquor ring in the Pottawatomie county oil field and save her son who had confessed as being a "collector" for the gang.

EIGHT CONVICTED IN BIG RUM PLOT, Oklahoma Ex-Sheriff Is Among Those Found Guilty, but County Attorney is Acquitted.  Five Others Are Freed.  Federal Officers Accused 102 of Conspiracy and 36 Are Now Awaiting Sentence.
Randall Pitman, County attorney--acquitted.  Frank Fox, Sheriff from 1925 to 1929--convicted.
Others convicted: Bob Keys, Virgil Church and Bill Collier, operators of drug stores; Roy Booth, resort proprietor, and John Baugh, Barney Lovette and J.W. Motsenbacher.  Forrest Anderson, Bud Greer and John Boggess were acquitted.

TEACHER DIES IN CAR WRECK, Maud Coach, on Death Bed Urges Boys to 'Carry On' at State Meet.
Account of the death of Horace Carpenter, Maud highschool's track coach.  Other names: his wife Rilla and Maud principal, L. R. Stegall.  Another teacher, J.E. Yancey and a student John Smith were also injured.

SHAWNEE MAN BLAST VICTIM, Father of 6 Children May Die of Burns Received At Gasoline Plant.
Thirty-eight years old J.L. Comer suffered burns in an explosion at Amerada Petroleum Co., two miles southeast of Earlsboro.

SHAWNEE GIRL IN SPOTLIGHT HERE FRIDAY; Suzanne (sic) Truscott May Develop Into State Title Contender.
Article about Rozanne Truscott of Shawnee being a "promising young feminine golfer."  Rozanne, a Shawnee highschool student, had recently played in the state meet.

FULTON, MO--report that Miss Rosann Truscott of Shawnee, Okla. won the William Woods college golf championship.  She defeated Miss Mary Martineau of Oklahoma City.

The SHAWNEE MORNING NEWS, Tuesday, September 26, 1939, pg 3:
FORMER RESIDENT OF COUNTY DIES
   Tom Truscott, 57, formerly a pioneer resident of Pottawattomie county, died unexpectedly Monday morning at his home in Norman.
   Truscott lived at Maud for 13 years, moving from there to Norman in 1913.
   Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Guardian Funeral home in Oklahoma City, with burial in Rose Hill cemetery, Oklahoma City.
   Truscott is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George E. Truscott of Oklahoma City; four brothers, J.J. and Alvin Truscott of Shawnee, Lawrence Truscott of California and George Truscott of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Mrs. Leta Krippendorf of Oklahoma City and Mrs. Mary McAllister of Houston.
