The State National Bank was organized in 1902 and this
building was erected in 1929.
State National Bank was closed by the bank moratorium
in 1933 and reopened
under new charter as the American National Bank.
The 1910 Shawnee City directory gives this summary:
Capital and Surplus, $120,000.00.
Pres. Willard Johnston;
Vice President G.E. McKinnis;
Cashier, C.M. Cade;
Asst Cashier, W.J. Barnett
After the bank became American National Bank--the first
officers were:
C.E. Bowlby, President
Paul Loy, Ashier
In 1933 W. E. Harber and H.T. Riddle purchased the bank
and remained in the same location
until the bank moved on June 1, 1965 to their present
location at the corner of
Ninth and Broadway. The bank became Arvest Bank
in the 1990s.
This building at 2 East Main is still in use on the northeast
corner of Main and Broadway.
It is no longer used as a bank, but has various tenants.
