*Club History*
The Pottawatomie County Genealogy Club is a non-profit organization whose purposes are to: Promote interest in genealogy Assist members in research and study Collect and preserve resource material in a library. The Pottawatomie County Genealogy Club was organized June 25, 1979 with nineteen members. It was started as a study club with the club books being carried by the members in the trunks of their cars from meeting to meeting. The number of books increased until a small house was rented at 18 East Kirk Street in Shawnee to be used as a library. After a few years, the library grew beyond the capacity of the house, which needed extensive repairs. In June 1985 the library was moved to the Santa Fe Depot Museum where space was shared with the Historical Society of Pottawatomie County until both organizations outgrew their spaces. The library was then moved to the Mini-Mall at Main & Broadway Streets in the fall of 1988 and remained there until the summer of 1994. The books were stored at a member's home until another place could be located to hold the collection. In May 1995 a group of members underwrote the rent for one year and the club moved into the Masonic Building. The library was moved from 3 rooms to one room which only has room for part of the library collection. Larger facilities are being explored. In February 2011 the club was once again forced to close the library because of lack of financial support and low membership after several months of members paying the rent to the Masonic Building. On Saturday, Feb 26th members moved the contents of the library to storage with the hope the new Santa Fe Depot museum annex will become a reality soon and they can move in to spaces provide in the museum so that visitors can use the club's resources. During this time research requests will be responded to by members who volunteer to respond to requests via US mail and email. The Pottawatomie County Genealogy Club is a 501(c)(3) organization--any and all donations greatly appreciated!

***Monthly Meetings***
The GENEALOGY CLUB meets the 2nd Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the Santa Fe Depot on East Main at the Santa Fe railroad tracks.
