Sequoyah was built in 1968.  The building suffered substantial
damage in the 1970 tornado resulting in extensive repairs to the building.
In the 1980's when Shawnee schools were divided into grade centers instead 
of neighborhood schools, Sequoyah served as the First grade center.
In 1990 a new multi-purpose wing was added which provides a
cafeteria/auditorium area.
