Rock Island Coal, Mine No. 7;

South McAlester, Indian Territory

Rock Island Mine

This photo is taken from a postcard in the 1900-1907 period. The card was never postmarked or sent though the original owner evidently had intentions to send and inscribed a message to someone unknown on it's face. Cards of this period required the message to be placed on the front and only the addresses were to be written on the back. Rock Island Coal Mine No.7 was on the east edge of Hartshorne Oklahoma (Indian Territory). It was owned and operated by the Rock Isalnd Railway Company. The Rock Island operated several large mines of 400 - 700 feet in depth between Alderson and Hartshorne.
