| This photo is the
blacksmithing, and general repair business of Thomas D. Jones and Michael
Plant. It was located at 350 E. Choctaw Ave. in McAlester, Indian
Territory. It was in what is now the parking lot of 'The Ice House'
restaurant, on the South West corner of 5th St. and Choctaw. The photo was
taken prior to Statehood as Choctaw Avenue, in which the wagon is setting,
was not paved with bricks till late 1906 at the earliest. The sign on top
of the building says 'T. D. Jones, Horse Shoeing' in center; 'General
Repairing' on left; and 'Wood Work' on right. Sign on left side of
building is another 'Swift's Pride Soap' sign. On front "Mickey Plant
Practical Horseshoeing". Thomas D. Jones, Michael
Plant, and the business are all listed in the 1905 McAlester directory
that is on the Pittsburg County website that you maintain. They both lived
within two blocks of the business. Photo Courtesy of Steve Defrange |
