SURNAME -  COMPTON Query ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I am searching for any information on Ike Compton. Ike was my grandfather and married my grandmother, Nelda Hendrix in or around Wanette October 16, 1905. They had 2 children, a girl Clara Gertrude b. November 9, 1910 and Matt Joyce my father -  b. June 15, 1912. Sometime in 1917 Ike was shot and killed by a neighbor in a dispute over Ritchie the neighbor -  abusing a mule. They had a fist fight and the next day Ike went to Ritchie's home so they could ride into town together and report the fight to the authorities....Ritchie stepped onto the porch, shot and killed Ike. After Ike's death Nelda left the children with her sister Gertrude and moved to Shawnee to find work. If anyone has any information about this family or the Mathew Scott Hendrix family, who are buried in the Wanette Cemetery please contact me......I would certainly appreciate it. SURNAME -  COOK Query - ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A family name Fletcher, that lived in Shawnee Okla. my father in law was born there on May 17,1907 his parents names were James Fletcher or James Cook, mothers name was Mabel Hughes ? -  both of Texas, this information came off his social security application. Also the children may have been from 2 different marriages from Mabel, Story are she had a few husbands but these may just be stories.. Also hear the father was a sheriff in Okla and stole a race house and this was why the change of names. All family records were destroyed in a fire and then the rest in a flood. there is so much false information on what legal documents we have. It is almost impossible to trace anything. There were 2 boys born in OKla one named, Alvin Luther Fletcher or Cook and one named Raymond Ralph Cook Raymond always used the name Cook. on his application for social security it names his parents as James Cook, and mother as mary, maria or Mannie last name unknown. Enlisted in the U.S. Army ! during WW2. Raymonds date of birth is Oct.23,1918.. he also lived in Calif , Looks like the family moved to Calif and stayed pretty close to eat other in the Kingsburg, and Fresno Area. Raymond and Alvin are buried in the Kingsburg Cemetery. Have sent for his records but seen they were also destroyed in a fire, along with other records stored. There were 2 girls, ages or birth places unknown, their names were Florance and Vilma, Florance married a Bill Kodman, and lived in Calif until her death last year. Children (Martha, Tom, Alta, Charley, Henry, Tom, Jess, Reuben) were born in OK. Searching for any birth certificate(s)/marriage certificate(s), or other info source that would show where Mary Jane/Thomas J. were born, any of their siblings, ANY possible info about Mary Jane's and Thomas's parents. Either Thomas OR Mary Jane could be Native American not sure that family stories of being Cherokee are true since I've not found any enrollment data. Due to lack of information, feel parents/siblings of either or both may have lived inside one of the Sovereign Nations and ancestors may have been part of Trail of Tears. Seekin descendants of ORANGE P. CRANFORD born 1822, supposedly in Cranford, England) married LAURA BRITTAIN ( born 1927 in N.C.) in Davidson County,NC marriage bond dated May 22, 1847. They next appear on the Federal Census enumerated July 20th, 1860 in Richland Township (Richland Post Office), Jefferson County, Arkansas. O.P.'s age is given as 38, his occupation as Master Carpenter, and his place of birth as N.C. (?) Louisa here appears as L C Cranford, aged 32, born in North Carolina. Their children include a female aged 11, initials perhaps N P, Cranford the writing is unclear; R. H. Cranford, a male aged 9 (my great great grandfather); C F Cranford, a female aged 7. The next "Cranford Sighting" takes place in the 1880 Federal Census in Rockwell, Texas, Just Precinct #1. (It was not mentioned on the Census, but NIS lists Rockwell as being in Lamar County.) Robert Henry Cranford (born about 1851, died about 1924 in Bard, Imperial County, Illinois) is married to (Elizabeth) Bettie Coose (born about 1880 in Tennessee, died 10 June 1905, Tecumseh, Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma). In their household Emma Cranford, a daughter age 5, born in Arkansas; Jimmy Cranford,a son aged 4, born in Arkansas; and Martha, a daughter aged 11 months. James Jackson Curtis, Ida Jane Curtis and Ruth Curtis. Ida Jane married Mack Smith and Ruth married Ober Fox. James Curtis( my Grandfather,) Thomas Ira was my Great-grandfather. We show him with five children, but we only knew the three.Records show two others named Lucy and Sammie. He had a sister here named Nancy Jane Curtis-Shipman-Fritz. She was married to Calvin W Shipman in Winston co.Alabama.They had eight children, Sarah m.,Joseph,Joella J,John,William c.,Perry s,Julius H.,and Margaret H Shipman. They moved to Arkansas from Winston co.,Alabama and were listed on U.S.census living in Carroll co. Arkansas in 1880. Calvin pasted on and she remarried to a man named Fritz.
