My gr grandmother Callie(Cleek)Rice died sometime in the 1970's and is buried in Shawnee. Her husband is probably buried there also (don't know his name). SURNAME -  ENGERT Query ~~~~~~~~~~~~ John F Engert took part in the run on May 5, 1895. He was perhaps born in Iowa, moved to Illinois around 1870.He married Mary Jane Powell in 1881 in Effingham Illinois. Moved to Logan Kansas with father and mother John Engert and Matilda Wynert Engert and grandfather Valentine Engert. He worked in a dry goods store in Kansas then took part in the run in Oklahoma. He homestead 365 acres 4 miles northeast of McLoud Oklahoma. He had a land patent on his homestead it is in the courthouse in Chandler Oklahoma.. He never had mortgage on any of his property. He planted an orchard on about 60 acres east of the homestead, which is still standling and occupied. One of the few land run homesteads in the McLoud area. I believe the property where the house is is owned by Virginia Frost Peterson. He moved to Oklahoma with three children, Cecelia , Anna Engert Stieber Brown, John Edward Engert, Charles Leo Engert was born on the homestead in 1897 on a stump in the field whil! e Mary Engert was plowing. Josephine Engert Clark was born on the homestead On March 16, 1901. The Kickapoo Indians used to cross the homestead enroute to Shawnee to obtain supplies. There was a two room cabin on the homestead just southwest of the large house, which burned approximately 1945. Does anyone have any knowledge of the Engert family. John Engert and Matilda had twelve children all born in Iowa or Illinois. John came to America with his father Valentine, mother possibly named Catherine, and perhaps a sister named Elizabeth. I think they immigrated in 1841 from Germany. Valentine Von Engert was an architech in Germany. There are two towns named after him Engertsham 6 miles west of Scharding austria in Germany and Engertsberg 12 miles east of Scharding in Austria. Does any one have any knowledge of the Engerts in Germany? SURNAME - ELRED Query - ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I am searching for the family of Robert Maxwell Mitchell born March 17, 1869 in Dade County, Mo., he died Janurary 10, 1916 in Trousdale, Pottawatomie County, and is buried in the Old Moral Cemetery in Tribbey, Pottawatomie co, Olkahoma. He was the son of Raleigh and Cynthia Underwood Mitchell, his siblings would have been James B.(Box), Theodosia, Alice Jane, Charles, (or Charlie), John T., Albert Reeves, all of these siblings stayed in Dade County, but some of there family moved to Oklahoma. Alice Jane married a Robertson, first and their son Tom lived most of his life in Oklahoma later on Alice Jane married Clarence C. or Can Ingraham and they lived in Oklahoma, possible in Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma. Alice Jane and Can have a grandson Hallie Ingraham that lives in this area, his address is Lexington, his phone is Tribbey, and his grandchilren go to shool in Noble, Ok. I think the spot he lives in which is suppose to be the area that Robert Maxwell Mitchell settled. It in is what they often called in never land as to what law, or what county matches the area. Robert Maxwell Mitchell parents was both born in Tennesse, and came wtih their families to Dade Co. in 1850 from Warrren Co, Tn. Robert Maxwell Mitchell left Dade County for Pottawatomie, Co., when an older brother Box Mitchell and their Uncle Taylor Underwood became involved in a supposed horse stealing ring. It is said that Box panicked not wanting his younger brother name tainted, or him to be invloved so he made a deal to do whatever it took to get his younger brother Robert left out of the ordeal. Taylor Underwood was a brother to their mother, and he managed to stay one step of the law until they was through haning people on the courthouse lawn, it is said that the only reason Box wasn't hung was he pretended to tell them he knew where Taylor was in order to free Bobby. Robert Maxwell Mitchell married Anna Bell Hackett on Oct. 14, 1895 at Tecumseh, Pottawatomie Co. Ok. she was born in Cedar Co., Mo. Nov. 29, 1880, the daughter of Leroy Hackett and Martha Allie, Elred, or Alred. Their children was Oma, Alpha Altus, Bennie, Andy, Almond (or Almon) Ernest, Allie, Mattie, and Hattie Florence, all born in Ok., in this same area, most likely all in Pottawatomie Co. Robert Maxwell's father Raleigh Mitchell was born in March 1838, died 1910 in Dolberg, Oklahoma, and his mother Cynthia Underwood Mitchell was born October 1837, died December 25, 1908 and is buried in the Hickory Grove cemetery in Arcola, Dade Co, Mo.
