Otis Dillis GROVES is the son of Mr. and Mrs. GROVES, SR. of Tom, Okla. He was employed by a furniture factory in Ft. Smith before he entered the navy January 21, 1944. He was sent to San Diego for training and then assigned for duty on the U. S. S. Alabama, now in the south Pacific. His wife, Wilma and two children live in Muldrow.

Ira Clark BRACKETT, C. S. K. enlisted October 27, 1943. Prior to that time he was an inspector in the fire department at Camp Gruber. He received his education in Sequoyah county schools and Northeastern State college at Tahlequah. He is stationed at Camp Peary, Va. where he is supply chief for 11,000 men. His mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. BRACKETT live in Sallisaw. His wife, Nettie, with their four sons, Ira, Jr., Charles, Roy Lee and Peary Paul also live in Sallisaw.

Pvt. Robert T. DYER was employed in a Fort Smith factory when he entered the army June 4, 1942. He is with an ordinance division, that went overseas September 12, 1943. He was stationed in England before D. Day, but now is on active duty in France. His wife makes her home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee LEMLEY, in Muldrow.
Bill J. DYER, who has been in New Guinea since January, 1944, was employed in a rim and bow factory in Ft. Smith at the time of his induction in March, 1943. He is attached to a field artillery battalion. Both DYER boys are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. John DYER, both deceased. They have six brothers and two sisters. ( Robert & Bill)

Daniel G. MOORE Joined the army Jan. 23, 1940. He left the States Dec. 23, 1942 and landed in North Africa. He later participated in the Sicilian and Italian campaigns. He recently wrote home about spending a few days in Rome and has sent several souvenirs home.
John E. MOORE is a coxswain in the navy. He enlisted Nov. 30, 1942 and on April 15, 1943 sailed to the northwest Pacific and spent six months in the Aleutians with an amphibious force. He also saw action at Attu, Kiska, Adak islands and was in other battles. He returned to the States last October, but sailed again in March. The last letter his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel E. MOORE, Sallisaw, route 1, received was written May 7, 1944 from the Solomon Islands.

Pfc. Eugene MORSE was a farmer before he went in the service. He was first stationed at Camp Barkley, Texas, and has been transferred to a mechanized division and has been sent to Camp Gordon, Ga. Pfc. MORSE is the son of Mrs. Ola Jane MORSE, of Sallisaw, route 4.

Wayne HIXSON, seaman second class, entered the navy May 11, 1943. Received his boot training at San Diego and was sent to the Hawaiian Islands, where he has been for the past six months.

Dave L. HIXSON, USMC, was employed by a furniture factory in Fort Smith before entering service April 7, 1944. He took his boot training at San Diego and Camp Pendleton, Calif. where he ranked as one of the best marksmen in his company. He is now somewhere in the Pacific theater. His wife and three children live in Muldrow. They are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. L. G. HIXSON, Muldrow. Two other brothers, Everett serving in the navy, and S. Sgt. Roy HIXSON are somewhere overseas.

Elmer NEIGHBORS, S 1/C was inducted March 2, 1944, and took his training at Norfolk, Va. and Great Lakes, Ill. before being sent overseas. He is now somewhere in the south Pacific. His wife and three children live in Sallisaw.
Claudie NABORS, ( this is how it was spelled) entered the service Oct. 26, 1941 and has been overseas more than a year. He was a member of the invasion force and has been in France since D day, with an infantry division. Both boys are sons of Mrs. Matha HARRISON of Sallisaw (Elmer & Claudie).

James A. PRATT has been stationed in England since Feb. 1944. He had been in service over a year when he went across. His wife and son live in Richmond, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. R. S. PRATT, route 1, Sallisaw are his parents.

Alton PRICE is the 18 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ottus PRICE, Sallisaw. After entering the service Dec. 15, he went to Sheppard Field for basic training. He is now at Long Beach, Calif., where he is training to be mechanic on a B-24 Liberator.

John H. PETERS, son of Mr. and Mrs. William F. PETERS, was farming when he enlisted January 18, and was assigned to a medical detachment, taking his basic training at Ft. Sill before going to San Francisco, and from there to a post in the Pacific theater.

Sgt. Andy POINDEXTER entered the army November, 1942. He received basic training for the infantry at Camp Haan, Calif. He is now somewhere overseas.
William POINDEXTER was inducted January, 1943 and assigned to an infantry division. He volunteered for the paratroopers, but has since been transferred because of injuries. He recently reported overseas for duty.
Tom POINDEXTER, S 2/C, entered the service October, 1943 and went to San Diego for basic training. In December, 1943 he was assigned to duty somewhere in the Pacific Theater, where he is now stationed. The three boys are sons of Mr. and Mrs. Jim POINDEXTER, Brushy. (Andy, William & Tom)

Thurman Pierce SPENCER has been overseas since December, 1943, first going to England, then to France. he is now somewhere in Belgium. He went into the service November, 1942. His wife and son live in Vian. Mr. and Mrs. Mack Washington SPENCER, Vian, are his parents.

Charles Gunter OLENTINE, 18 son of T/Sgt. and Mrs. W. O. OLENTINE, Muldrow was enrolled in an army specialized training program at Stillwater when he was inducted March 18, 1944. After passing all mental and physical test as alternate appointee to West Point, the principal appointee was accepted instead, and he was assigned to the infantry reconnaissance and intelligence unit. Has received another appointment to West Point in 1945.

T. Sgt. William Ora OLENTINE served in the navy in World War I, enlisting for service in the present conflict October 1942. He took his basic training in San Diego. He is now overseas with an engineering unit. His wife, Ola GUNTER OLENTINE, lives in Muldrow.

Pvt. Euell B. OGDEN 19 years old, is a paratrooper, being transferred to this branch from the infantry. He went into the service July 19, 1943. He is the son of Lester L. OGDEN of Warner.

Thomas Elmer MASSA was farming at the time of his induction March 1942. After training at Fort Reno, he was sent to the south Pacific, returning after eight months service to Fort Reno where he is awaiting assignment to overseas duty. His father, Rufus Massa lives at Badger Lee.

Pfc. John W. POLECAT was inducted May 28, 1942 and went to Camp Stewart, Ga. Upon completing his training he was assigned to duty in Iceland, January, 1943. He is there at the present time. His wife and two children live in Rogue River, Ore. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Andy POLECAT.

T. Sgt. Robert L. PIERCE enlisted Oct. 16, 1940, before completing his last year in high school. He is in the infantry stationed at Ft. Sam Houston, Tex. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis C. PIERCE reside in Sallisaw.

Utah NICHOLS, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willie NICHOLS, was a farmer when he entered the service. He was assigned to a medical detachment and sent to Camp Ruckner for training.

James W. BREEDLOVE, 20 year-old son of Dr. and Mrs. W. W. BREEDLOVE of Sallisaw, received his education in the Sallisaw city schools. Before his entry into the service, Dec. 15, 1941, he was a student. Since that time he has been at San Diego Calif., and took part in the battle of the Gilberts, Naru, Rabaul, Buka, Bougainville,New Georgia and Guadalcanal islands.

Wayne STEWART went in the service August 17, 1942. Before that time he was employed at Camp Gruber. After entering the service he was sent to Camp Ellis, Ill. and assigned to the medical corps. Cpl. Cpl. Joe Quenton BARNES, 21, received his education in the Vian schools and was farming before entering the service. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar T. BARNES and has two brothers and one sister. He was stationed at Marfa, Tex. and has been in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy.

Robert F. VANN has completed training as a paratrooper. He went in the service Feb. 16, 1943, and before that time was employed as a theater manager. His first training was with an engineering outfit. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank VANN of route one, Sallisaw, and a member of the 1942 graduating class of Central high.

Dell Dick SHELTON arrived in England sometime in early August. He went in the army August 9, 1943 and was a merchant in Sallisaw before that time. He is a brother to Herbert SHELTON who was killed in World War I. First stationed at Camp Gruber, SHELTON was moved to Ft. Meade, Md. and went overseas from there. His wife Lorene SANDERS SHELTON is making her home in Sallisaw for the duration.

Pfc. Henry S. SPEARS JR. is somewhere in France. A graduate of the Vian schools, SPEARS was first stationed at Camp Douglas, Marfa, Tex., after going in the service June 3, 1942. John Henry FARMER gets his mail "in care of Postmaster, New York." He was inducted into the army November 23, 1942, and was sent to Fort Benning, Ga., and was later moved to Camp Gordon. His wife, Bertha SMITH FARMER and baby, Glenda Sue, live in Bowdon, Ga. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Jess FARMER of route 3, Muldrow. A graduate of the Muldrow high school, he farmed until he entered the army.

Pfc. Elmer DENNIS, known to many of his friends as "Doogie" is somewhere in France. He spent two years training in the States and was first sent to England, when he went overseas. Prior to his entree into the service, he worked at Braggs. The son of Mrs. Rose Ella TEEHEE, his home is in Gore.

Jerry Warren DUVALL, 22, received his education at Paw Paw and Muldrow, and at the time of his induction he was farming. Entering the service November 23, 1942, he received his basic training at Fresno, Calif. His advanced training was in Paine Field, Wash. and is now stationed at Barksdale Field, La., in M. P. Training. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Duvall of Muldrow and has three sisters and two brothers, one of which is in the navy.

Theodore McKinley STITES is in the Aleutian Islands. He went in the service Jan. 13, 1943, and was first sent to Sheppard Field, Tex. Last April he was transferred to Ft. Richardson, Alaska. He attended school in Roland and Sallisaw. His wife, Mrs. Noma STITES, and daughter, Margaret Faye are living near Sallisaw. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom STITES, are living in Richmond, Calif.

Jack Everett COKER left the States April 2, of this year and is located in Italy. He is a member of a medical unit. The son of Mrs. and Mrs. Charles W. COKER, he was a defense worker before he was inducted into the army September 21, 1943. His wife, Alma Pauline COKER and their 19 months-old son, Charles Everett live in Muldrow. COKER is a graduate of the Muldrow high school Since entering the service COKER has been stationed at Monterey, Calif., Camp Barkley, Tex. and Fort Lewis, Wash.

T/Sgt. Joe C. BRUTON, 29, son of Caswell B. BRUTON of McAlester, received his education in the Muldrow, McAlester and Sallisaw schools, finishing at Sallisaw. He entered the service January 2, 1941 and prior to that time he was a merchant at Vian. He has been stationed at Jefferson Barracks, Mo., and at the mechanical school at LaGuardia Field, N. Y. After serving 32 months in Australia, New Caledonia, and the South Pacific, he is now stationed at the Air Forces Redistribution Station, Miami Beach, Fla.

L. Lynn BRUTON, Ph. 2-c U. S.M., 20, son of Caswell B. BRUTON of McAlester, received his education in the Sallisaw and McAlester schools. Before his entry into the service he was a student and has been stationed in San Francisco, Mare Island, Calif., and in New Zealand. He is now in San Francisco and expects to get a furlough soon. He was overseas 20 months. His wife, Mrs. Florence BRUTON, of New Zealand, is expected to arrive in the States sometime in the near future, to join her husband who is a Ph. M. 2-c with the United States Navy.

Sgt. Wm. O. BRUTON, 24, son of Caswell B. BRUTON of McAlester, entered the service Sept. 1940 and was inducted with the Oklahoma National Guard at Ft. Sill. Receiving his education at McAlester he was a tailor before his induction and since that time he has been stationed at Abilene, Tex., Pinecamp, N. Y., Camp Pickett, Va., Sicily, Italy. He has been overseas 16 months and is now stationed in southern France.

George Douglas AMOS, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. T. AMOS of Alameda, Calif., received his education in the Sallisaw city schools graduating with the class of 1944. Entering the service October 31, 1943,(?) he took his basic training at Amarillo, Tex. After completing his basic training he was sent to Missoula, Mont. for five months college work, then to Santa Ana, Calif. for classification as bombardier. He is now stationed at Kingman, Ariz. as an aviation cadet, and will receive his commission in February of 1945.

Cpl. Julius M. SMITH is an food inspector in Houston, Texas. He was inducted on August 8, 1942 and assigned to the engineers. His duties now are under the quartermaster's center in Houston. SMITH took his bachelor of science degree at Northeastern, Tahlequah, in 1940. He is also a graduate of the Sallisaw high school. Cpl. SMITH's wife is in Houston with him. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. SMITH of route one, Sallisaw.

Gy. Sgt. Andrew G. TIFFANY was a farmer before induction November, 1940. For a time he was stationed at Camp Pendleton, Calif. going from there to Oceanside, where he is at present.
S. Sgt. John G. TIFFANY is somewhere in France. he went into service April 1941, and was first stationed in California with the first quartermaster's company, before going overseas.
Cpl. Alex A. TIFFANY and S.Sgt. John G. TIFFANY are twins, the former going into service July 1938, took his basic training in California. he is now stationed in the Aleutian Islands. Parents of the three sons are Mr. and Mrs. A. G. TIFFANY, route 2, Vian. (Andrew, John, Alex)

Maj. Oscar STEGALL, JR., 31 years old, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar STEGALL, SR., Seminole. After attending school in Muskogee, Shawnee and Seminole, he graduated from the university of Oklahoma, where he was a member of ROTC and entered the service in March, 1941, as second lieutenant. At Pine Camp, where he was first stationed he was commissioned first lieutenant. At Ft. Knox, Ky., he was made a captain, later while stationed at Camp Bowie, Texas, he received the rank of Major before going overseas December, 1943. First located in England, he is now division ammunition officer with the 4th ammunition officer with the 4th armored division in France, with Patton's Third army on the Metz Nancy front. He was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service in action against the enemy in the Normandy campaign. The citation reads in part: "Thru his untiring effort and devotion to duty, as division ammunition officer, he has contributed materially to the success of the division's campaigns." His wife, the former Julia (Biddy) JOHNSTON, with their small daughter, is making their home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred JOHNSTON, Sallisaw, for the duration.

Dwight Howard SPEAR, Mo. M.M. 3/C, was a student in college when he enlisted Aug. 17, 1942. After completing basic training he was assigned to duty and is somewhere with the fleet in the south Pacific. A brother, Nathan Duane SPEAR, is also in the navy, and is taking training at San Diego. Their parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. M. SPEAR live on route 3, Healdton.

M., where he was married before going overseas. he is now somewhere in England. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl LESSLEY live in Sallisaw, as does his wife and baby.

Joyce Raymond HAMILTON, aviation machinist mate 3-C US navy, was inducted Feb. 23, 1942 and received his boot training at San Diego. He went overseas in May, 1943 and returned to the States in Nov. 1944. He is now receiving special training at Chicago, Illinois. Son of Mr. and Mrs. H. G. HAMILTON, Vian, he has three sisters and four brothers. Pfc. William Carl HAMILTON is in the Army.

Cpl. Johnnie A. SEABOLT was killed in action somewhere in Belgium, Sept. 6, 1944, according to a notice from the war department received by his mother, Mrs. Minnie SEABOLT of Nicut. He entered the service in November, 1942, and was sent to England, December, 1943, where he remained until "D" Day when he went with the third army into France, with an anti-aircraft unit. Besides his mother he is survived by seven sisters and one brother.

Lt. (jg) Louis E. MATTHEWS. USNR, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan J. MATTHEWS, graduated from Sallisaw high school, and from the University of Oklahoma in 1940 as a chemical engineer. When he enlisted July 15, 1942, he was employed by the Sinclair Oil Co. He received his present rating in Washington, D. C. He is now located in Hanover, N. H.

Levi QUINTON was killed in action July 22nd of this year. He was with an infantry division that went to England in April, and was on combat duty on the Italian battlefront when he lost his live. His mother, Mrs. Eliza NEED, is deceased. One sister, Mrs. Ben WEBB, is a resident of Sallisaw.

Sgt. Clell D. JACKSON was a member of the fighting force that participated in the North African and Sicilian campaigns. From there going to Italy where he is now located. Ensign John Edward TERRILL graduated from Vian high school with the class of 1940, and attended Connor's college, Warner. He was inducted September, 1942 and assigned to the navy air corps, Athens, Ga. At Pensacola, Fla. in February, 1944, he was commissioned ensign in the navy air corps reserve and received his gold wings. he is now stationed on Whidbey Island, Wash., awaiting further assignment. Mr. and Mrs. Edmond J. TERRILL, Muskogee, are his parents.

Cpl. Evan EWING is serving with the colors somewhere overseas. He was a carpenter, engaged in construction work in Washington, at the time he enlisted in August, 1941. he was stationed at Fort Riley, Kans., and Camp Polk, La. before going overseas. Cpl. EWING's wife lives in Louisiana.
Cpl. Keith EWING was employed as a carpenter before enlisting November 23, 1942. He received training at McCord Field, Wash., before going overseas. He is now somewhere in France.
Edward EWING was a carpenter in civilian life. He enlisted for service in May, 1942, and was assigned to the air corps and went to Sheppard Field, Texas, later going overseas. He is now somewhere in Italy.
F. 1/C Douglas EWING, 18 years old, attended school at Central High. He was working in the shipyards at Portland, Ore., when he enlisted May 18, 1944. First sent to the naval station at Camp Wallace, Texas, he is now at Fort Pierce, Fla. Parents of the four EWING boys are Mr. and Mrs. F. M. EWING, Sallisaw, route 1. They have five brothers and three sisters. Mrs. EWING is a World War I veteran. ( Evan, Keith, Douglas, Edward)

Sgt. Paul Raymond HINES a radio technician in the signal corps, is a Sallisaw boy, being born here 29 years ago. He graduated from Sallisaw high school, and attended A. and M. college, Stillwater. He was a salesman before entering the army May 3, 1942. His first training station was Fort Bliss, Texas. He is now at Camp Crowder, Mo. His wife, Fern Alene, accompanied him to Camp Crowder. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Dick HINES, Sallisaw, he has a brother Leslie HINES, and a sister, Mrs. Lois WORLEY, living at Portales, N. M. Willie Mae HINES, Sallisaw and Mrs. Gladys RUSH, Houston, Tex. also are sisters.

Pfc. Richard RISENHOOVER went into service November, 1943 and took infantry training at Camp McQuaide, Calif., and Camp Fannin, Texas. He has been overseas since last July. His wife, Mrs. Ollice RISENHOOVER has been notified that her husband was wounded in action in Germany in early October and is in a U. S. hospital in England being treated for wounds in his left arm and leg. he is the son of the late J. H. RISENHOOVER.

James E. MCCOY, USMC, enlisted in the service Nov. 2, 1942. He was sent to San Diego for his basic training, and then assigned to the Pacific area for duty, taking part in the invasion of Tarawa. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lem MCCOY, live on route 1, Gore.

Perry A. MCEVER is serving in northern France. He has been in the army since 1941. MCEVER has been stationed at Ft. Lewis, Wash., Camp Hood, Texas, Ft. Dix, N. J., and was sent from there to New York. Before going in the service he was a farmer.

Pfc. Ray H. PARRIS is now a qualified paratrooper stationed somewhere in New Guinea. He entered the service February, 1943, and was assigned to a glider outfit with the infantry before transferring to the paratroopers. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. M. O. PARRIS, Short.

Houston Clarence YOUNGBLOOD was manager of a retail store when he was inducted April 12, 1944, and assigned to the infantry at Camp Robinson, Ark. for training. He is now in Maryland for additional training. His wife and son live in Woodward, Okla. His mother is Mrs. Emma MONTGOMERY, Sallisaw. He is a half brother of Jack MONTGOMERY who is also in service.

Herbert Strawther THOMAS, a mechanic is an air force ground crew is stationed somewhere in the south Pacific. He was inducted January, 1943, and went to Ft. Sill for basic training, later graduating from auto ordnance school. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter THOMAS, Sallisaw.

Charles Darwin COLLINS, 18 years old, enlisted May 16, 1944, and was sent to Camp Wallace, Texas, for basic training and received the rating of seaman second class. He is now at San Diego, Calif.
Leighton A. COLLINS enlisted for service July 17, 1942. He was first sent to San Diego, Calif. From there he was transferred to Norman where he attended aviation ordnance school and received a promotion to seaman first class and was assigned to overseas duty in January, 1944.
T.Sgt. Boyce J. COLLINS enlisted for foreign service Sept. 8, 1941. On Oct. 9th he landed at Pearl Harbor and received his basic training at Scholfield Barracks, where he was given the rating of private first class with an ordnance division. On May 8, 1943 he sailed for the States where he has remained since. He received his promotion to technical sergeant April 1, 1944. At present he is at Camp Howze, Texas.
Eugene G. COLLINS, T. 5 entered the army March 3, 1941 and was assigned to an anti-tank company with an infantry division. He first served as truck driver and later as a mechanic with a rating of technician fifth class. Prior to his induction he joined the National Guards in California in 1940.
S. Sgt. Aulton A. COLLINS was the first of the five COLLINS brothers to enlist for service, on Jan. 20, 1941. He was at Randolph Field, Texas, for a short time, going from there to Rantoul, Ill., where he received his diploma as mechanic in a flight division. Later he was promoted to staff sergeant and transferred to Mather Field, Calif., where he was stationed when he lost his life in the line of duty on a flying mission. His wife, Dorothy Madge COLLINS is a WAVE in the navy. The parents of the five brothers are Mr. and Mrs. Ben H. COLLINS, Muldrow. (Charles, Leighton, Boyce, Eugene & Aulton)

Dorothy Madge COLLINS, S 2/C was the wife of the late Sergeant Aulton A. COLLINS. She entered the service as a WAVE at Sacramento, Calif., and received her training in New York, after which she was transferred to the naval training and distribution center, Treasure Island, Calif. Roy Wilburn TAYLOR, T 5, is now stationed at Camp Bowie, Texas. He has been in the service since August, 1942, and was first stationed in the air force at Will Rogers Field, Oklahoma City. His wife makes her home at Vian, as does his mother, Mrs. Mollie TAYLOR.

T. Sgt. Wayne Boise FLOYD 23 years old, was employed by an oil company when he enlisted with the marines July 24, 1940. In 1942 he spent eight months at Pearl Harbor. He is now on the island of Guam where he is attached to a water purification unit. His wife and son live in Earlsboro, on route 1.
A/C Glenn L. FLOYD enlisted for service June 2, 1943, and is a cadet in the air corps, training for pilot in Mission, Texas. He graduated from school in Prairie View and was engaged in defense work at Wichita, Kans., before enlisting.
T. Sgt. Bayne Roise FLOYD, 22 years old, was employed an an oil company before enlisting in the air corps Dec. 11, 1942. He is an aerial engineer and top turret gunner. He was sent to England in August, 1943, from where he flew 26 missions over enemy occupied Europe. He was awarded the Flying Cross, Air Medal and Presidential Citation with an Oak Leaf Cluster. T. Sgt. Wayne and T. Sgt. Bayne are twins, and sons of Mr. and Mrs. C. B. FLOYD, Earlsbora, Glen is also another son in the service.

Kelly Weston SLAUGHTER entered the service in July 1944, and was sent to Camp Gordon Johnson, Fla. and later was sent for amphibious training on St. James Island. He was an electrician at Napa, Calif. prior to induction. SLAUGHTER is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert SLAUGHTER of Vian. He has a wife and two children, Patricia Ann and Linda Kay.

Pvt. Charley M. ANDERSON on the fighting front in Normandy. He is the son of Mrs. Hand ANDERSON of route 2, Sallisaw. He attended grade school in Ashton, Kans., and was engaged in farming at the time of his entrance into the army in November of 1942. First sent to Fort Sill, Pvt. ANDERSON then went to Needles, Calif., later to Picket, Va. and to Camp Stewart, Ga. From there he embarked for England. ANDERSON has two sister and one brother; his sisters, Mrs. Mary MCGOWAN lives in Hot Springs and Miss Rosa ANDERSON lives in Sallisaw. His brother, George is in Great Lake, Ill.

Troy C. WALTERS went in the service April 14, 1941. He has been stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., for a year in Canada and in Shreveport, La. WALTERS farmed before going in the service. Pfc. Warner COATNEY was born on the Fourth of July, 1922. He spent the Fourth this year in the Marshall Islands fighting the Japs. He was inducted into the service in March, 1943 and first went to Fort Sill and later to Camp Walters, Texas. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry COATNEY of Sallisaw, route 1, he is a cook and baker for the army. He went to the New Hope school. He has four brother and four sisters.

Grady Garrell BAKER is another Sequoyah county marine. The son of Mrs. R. L. BAKER and the late Mr. BAKER, he was graduated from the Sallisaw schools and later attended Northeastern, Tahlequah. BAKER's wife, Bernell BRANUM BAKER is making her home in San Jose. The Marine was first stationed in San Diego, and later moved to Camp Pendleton. Employed with the highway engineers he entered the service in March of this year. His brother, Robert lives in Stilwell; three sisters, all of Detroit are Irene SHERRELL, Mary PLANT, and Virginia LOVERN.

Edwin Perry WHEELER is in Australia. He went in the service in June, 1942 and before that time was employed by Westinghouse as an electrical engineer, in Pittsburg, Pa. A graduate of the school of engineering, O. U., he was also graduated from the Sallisaw high school. WHEELER entered the service with the rating of second lieutenant and is now a fist lieutenant.
Will Watie WHEELER, JR., is acting commander of a Seabees unit. He entered the naval service as lieutenant, junior grade, July 16, 1943. After being stationed at Camp Peary, Va., he went to Gulfport, Miss., and on to New Hebrides. Before going in the service he was a civil engineer. Like his brother, he too is a graduate of the O.U. engineering school. His wife, Katherene, lives in Archer City, Texas.
John Mechem WHEELER is in the Pacific war theatre. After the battle of the Marshall Island, he received the rating machinists mate, first class. He entered the navy in October, 1942. He spent the last seven days of March in San Francisco, where his wife, Daisy Lee is making her home.
Homer Clark WHEELER is a captain with the army medical corps. He entered
the service as a first lieutenant July 1, 1941. He left for the Pacific area
in June 1942 and spent 14 months at Fort Moresby, and at the present is in
Australia. A member of the medical reserve since he was a student in medical
school at O.U. , he was subject to call at any time. At the time he went
in the service he was a house physician at St. Luke's hospital in St. Louis.a

Reuben Oliver MORTON is stationed at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville with the army specialized training unit of the air corps. He was graduated from the Vian schools with the class of 1944 and enlisted in the army in Tulsa in February, 1944.
Leland Matthews MORTON is somewhere in the southwest Pacific, where he hold the naval rating of SF 3/c. He has been overseas 16 months. He enlisted Sept. 29, 1942 in the naval reserve. He was graduated from the Vian schools with the class of 1939.
Aaron Cole MORTON has been overseas more than 20 months, and is somewhere in Great Britain. He has received good conduct awards while over there. A 1940 graduate of the Vian schools, he is a brother to Reuben Oliver and Leland Matthews MORTON. They are sons of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Franklin MORTON, route one, Gore.

Elmo Roy KING has been a member of army air forces since he enlisted Aug. 5, 1942. After leaving Fort Sill he took his basic training in St. Petersburg, Fla., and then went to Minter Field, Calif., where he was stationed until June. From there he went to Grenview Field, N. H., for six weeks, and on to Presque Isle, Me., where he is taking a 90-day mechanical course. A native of the county he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jess KING of Sallisaw. Thomas King of Ft. Smith is his brother. He is a graduate of the Muldrow high school.

S/Sgt. Samuel B. LESSLEY is stationed somewhere in England with the air force. LESSLEY volunteered for the service January 21, 1941, while employed in Tulsa. He was a member of the 1936 graduating class of the Sallisaw high school and attended college at Connor's in Warner. After he enlisted he was first sent to Kelly Field,, San Antonio, Texas, then he was moved to Phoenix, Ariz., to Luke Field, where he was promoted to sergeant; from Luke Field he was transferred to Roswell, N. M. army air field and was made staff sergeant. It was while he was in Roswell that LESSLEY married. His wife and baby are living in Sallisaw at the present. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl LESSLEY.

Cecil Warner ACUFF has a rating of midshipman, a promotion he received at the midshipman's school in Chicago. He entered the navy July 1, 1943 at Ruston, La. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. ACUFF of Sallisaw and received his education at Prices Chapel and Sallisaw schools. He was also graduated from Southeastern Teachers college in Durant. The 21 year old sailor will receive his commission soon.

Lieut. J. Ben REAVIS known in Sequoyah county as "Ben" is stationed at Tinker
Field, Oklahoma City, where he is assistant airplane storage officer. The
field was established for the maintenance and repair of aircraft and training
of air depot groups. Lieut. REAVIS has been graduated from the Gracemont
high school and was attending Northeastern, Tahlequah, at the time he entered
the air corps.

Pfc. Claude B. ALLEN is the son of Mrs. Finnie FLEETWOOD, who now lives in Yakima, Wash. Reared in the county, ALLEN entered the service in the spring of 1941 at Fort Lewis, Wash. ALLEN, is grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Jess MILLER, Sallisaw, route one, was engaged in factory work at the time he entered the army. His wife, Lorean and son, Eugene C., age 6, live here. Wesley C. COBLE is a native of Sequoyah county who is serving with the Pacific fleet. A 1943 graduate of the Sallisaw schools, he farmed until he was inducted in the service. COBLE received his boot training in San Diego and was trained to handle cargo at Port Hueneme, Calif., before assignment with the fleet. His rating is seaman, second class. He is the son of Mrs. Daisy COBLE who lives on Sallisaw route 2. His sister Hazel lives in Tulsa. while his two brothers, Poney and Raymond live near Sallisaw. Another sister, Mrs. Ellis SMITH also lives on route 2.

Frank Hudson HUGGINS sailed from the States in July of this year for duty in the south Pacific. Cpl. HUGGINS spent seven month in northeast Oregon on maneuvers. He is the son of Mrs. Max REAGER of Sallisaw. He received his education in the Sallisaw schools and was graduated from high school. Before his induction December 11, 1942, he was employed by Bell Telephone Co., Oklahoma City, as an engineer. He has one sister, Mary Janice, who lives in Norman.

Beautine Alfred BARNES has covered the battlefronts of Europe. He has trained men in Italy, Sicily, England and in Ireland. He holds the rating of tech sergeant, and was wounded in the invasion of France, and sent to England to recuperate. T.Sgt. BARNES was born at Akins, attended school at Akins, Sloan's Chapel and Sallisaw. At the time he enlisted in March, 1940, he was farming. He has been stationed at Fort Sill, Ft. Sam Houston, Texas and LaCross, Wis. He has been overseas since June 6, 1943. His parent are Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Franklin BARNES who live in Sallisaw, as does his wife, and their 16-month old son, Beautine Paul. Jasper N. BOYD is a former Sequoyah county school teacher, who is in the navy. Boyd has been in three major sea engagements in the south Pacific, and was returned to the States for hospitalization after being wounded at sea. his ship was the Lexington. BOYD went to school at Long, Muldrow, and at Northeastern, Tahlequah. He has been in the service since, August 3, 1943. The sailor's wife, Betty, lives near Muldrow, as does his mother, Mrs. Emma BOYD. His sisters are Rosa TASSEY, North Hollywood, Calif., Ruth SUTTON who also lives in the coast city. Perry W. FAULKNER is one of the many Sequoyah countians serving with the colors in New Guinea. The Muldrow man enlisted in the service June 22, 1935, after attending the Muldrow schools. In civilian life he is a farmer. The soldier's wife, Dallas, and their two-year-old child, Virginia Kay, live in Muldrow. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. FAULKNER of Muldrow. Sgt. John Nolan Clark, who is listed among Sequoyah county's men in> France, is know to many throughout the county as Onis. Sgt. CLARK landed in northern Ireland, from there he went to England where he spent five months, and was sent to France. Before going overseas he joined the National Guard at Fort Sill and spent two years with the 45th division at Camp Barkley, Texas where he attained the sergeant's rating. Sent to Camp Gruber in August of 1942, he was with a field artillery unit. He specialized in mechanics and was sent to Camp Howze, Texas before leaving the States in January, 1943. A farmer prior to his enlistment in October, 1940, he went to school in Sallisaw, and Parry View. He is the son of Mrs. Bertha FOX of Roff and has five sisters, Dona ERWIN of Wichita, Kan.; Callie BROOKS of Muskogee; Edith ARMS of El Paso; Jewel CLARK of Oklahoma City; Dorothy Jean FOX of Roff; his brothers are Kenneth FOX, Joe Nolan FOX and Lloyd Wayne FOX, all of Roff.

Carl S. BORTELL is serving with the army in France. He was sent to England after training at Fort Sill and later at Fort Meade, Md., for duty with a field artillery unit. Cpl. Quinton ECHOLS was wounded during the first two days of the invasion of France, and is recovering in an army hospital. A member of the airborne troops, he formerly was with a field artillery outfit. Born in Stigler, he went to school at Braggs and was a construction worker before going in the service March 19, 1941.

T/Sgt. Smiley ECHOLS is a brother of the corporal and is stationed in Tucson, Ariz. as a member of a mechanics group in the air corps. J. T. HOWARD has been in England since March of this year. Before going overseas he was first stationed at the time of induction, January 16, 1942, with a field artillery outfit, at Camp Roberts, Calif., and later moved to Camp Barley and on to Fort Dix, N. J. before going overseas.
Paul Wallace HOWARD, a brother of J. T. HOWARD, is in Italy. He is in the infantry and got his first training at Camp Fannin, Texas. he went on to Fort Meade, Md. and went to Italy from there. Both soldiers are sons of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie E. HOWARD of Muldrow. They went to school at Paw Paw and Roland. Paul Wallace HOWARD left school to enter the service last January.

Allen Eugene SCOGGINS is somewhere in France. A shipping clerk in a California bakery, he went in the service September 15, 1942, and was first stationed at Camp Claiborne, La. He is now a corporal, and he finished his training at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas. Allen went to school in Sallisaw.
Robert Glyn SCOGGINS is also somewhere in France. A machine operator in a
bakery before entering the service, he is a brother of Allen Eugene SCOGGINS.
He was sent to Camp Hood, Texas, after entering the service January 9, 1943.

Lt. Billie B. HARAWAY, 22, a dive bomber pilot and son of Mr. and Mrs. C. B. HARAWAY, Buena Vista, Alameda, Calif., is now stationed at Marine Corps Air Depot, Miramar, Calif. Lt. HARAWAY is a graduate of Sallisaw high school and Connor's Agricultural college, Warner, Okla. Lieut. HARAWAY is a veteran of 43 strikes and three tours of combat flying while operating from Allied airfields at Munda, Bougainville, Green Island and others in the south Pacific.

Robert Melvin HIGHT, S 2/C, enlisted in the Navy May 9, 1944 and was assigned to the USS Rockwell upon completion of his basic training. He is the son of Mr. W. J. HIGHT and was employed by a railroad at the time he entered service.

He was employed by the Missouri-Pacific railroad company at Van Buren, Arkansas at the time he enlisted. T/Cpl. Bill JOHNSTON has been in the European theater of action over two years and in his last letter home he stated he would be home soon. Cpl. JOHNSTON is with the army engineers and is assigned to the water supply division.

Garney enlisted in the army January 11, 1944 and took his basic training at Fort McClellan,. Ala. and at Camp Shelby, Miss. He has been overseas three and one half months. Before entering service CHRISTOPHER was attending school a Central high school and is 19 years of age.

Pvt. Jack TUGGLE, Sallisaw, has received a telegram from the war department stating her son, Pvt. Jack TUGGLE, was slightly wounded in France April 28. He received the Purple Heart on April 20, according to a letter written by Pvt. TUGGLE on V-E day to his mother. His wife, Lenora TUGGLE and son, Frederick Duane, make their home in Sallisaw. Pvt. TUGGLE was inducted April 27, 1944 and took his basic training at Camp Wolters, Texas and was assigned to the 66th division and sent overseas. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge March 1st. TUGGLE was employed by the Boeing plant in Wichita, Kans. as a carpenter prior to his entering service.

He is a graduate of Sallisaw high school and Northeastern State college, Tahlequah, and was a school teacher when he entered service April 23, 1942. He had served two years in the Oklahoma National Guards. He is now stationed in Palm Beach, Fla. where he is an instructor in a SPAR training station. His wife and son reside in Muldrow.

He was given a discharge in June of 1943. His son, Pvt. Gene INGLE entered service in October of 1940 and was attached to the Headquarters Company D.E.M. L., at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Cpl. Huckleberry SCOTT took his basic training at Pine Camp, New York. He served in the army before Pearl Harbor and re-enlisted after the attack. Cpl. SCOTT was a farmer before he entered the service. He is now serving overseas and visited with Mrs. Lora WAGNER and daughter, Gloria Jean on his last furlough at home.

Memorial services were held for J. Emory COLE, son of the late James L. COLE, near Mena, Arkansas April 10. Emory died March 7 from wounds received while fighting in western Germany. He had close to eight years of service in the army and was 19 years old when he enlisted the first time. COLE served two years at Fort Sill and was then sent to the Phillippine islands where he served for three years. He returned to the States in May of 1939 and made his home in Oklahoma City. In January of 1943 Emory volunteered his services to his country and was stationed at Camp Callan, California for two and one-half years in an anti-aircraft division. He was given a transfer to the infantry branch of the army and sent overseas in January of 1945 to do patrol work for the First army.

S/Sgt. Wilbur CHANDLER of Route 1, Gore, was a Section Leader of the 350th Infantry Regiment, at the Fifth Army, which took Mt. Battaglia in northern Italy in January of this year and held it for seven days of almost continuous counterattacking and close quarter fighting CHANDLER's regiment, a unit of the 88th "Blue Devil" Division of Mark Clark's army was ordered to occupy the mountain and reached there only a short time before German infantrymen apparently acted on similar orders. The 350th greeted the Germans with intense fire, and received great praise for their stand there.

Sandy WILLIAMS has been in the navy since January, 1944. After a short period of training in California, he was assigned to duty somewhere in the south Pacific, and is there at the present time. His wife and two children make their home in Roland.
Cpl. Thomas WILLIAMS went into service December, 1942. After taking his basic training he was stationed at Fresno, Calif. From there he went overseas, and is now in Australia.
Sgt. Lawrence WILLIAMS was inducted March, 1940. During his period of training he was stationed in four different states, before being assigned to overseas duty. he is now somewhere in New Guinea.

T. Sgt. Finis G. LEMLEY enlisted in the service in 1932. He is now in combat duty-somewhere in Italy. He is entitled to wear the bronze star for bravery in action during the Italian campaign. A brother, Odis LEMLEY received an honorable discharge from the army in May, 1943, and is now in the Aleutian Islands, a cook with an engineering division. His first station was Camp Rucker, Ala. WILLIAMS' wife, Mildred Irene and their year old daughter, Evelyn Lucille, live in Gore. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. W. R. WILLIAMS of Porterville, Calif.

Cpl. Clayburn GARRETT, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. GARRETT, Sallisaw route 4, enlisted in the army in June 1942, and after finishing his training was sent to North Africa. Cpl. GARRETT attended school at Amber and was engaged in farming before entering the service.

Wayman GARRETT, brother of Cpl. Clayburn GARRETT went into the army, Feb. 11, 1941, later being transferred to Camp Bowie, Brownwood, Texas, as car and truck inspector. Like his brother he was a farmer in civilian life and and received his education at Amber. They have two sisters, Opal GARRETT of Oklahoma City and Florence CROSLIN Gans and a brother. J. R. of Sallisaw GARRETTs wife and two children are with him in Brownwood.

Sgt. Louis KEYS, JR. is doing military police duty in Long Beach, Calif. He was inducted Sept. 14, 1942, in the army air corps and trained for MP duty at Jefferson Barracks, Mo. He was working in a refining plant in California at the time of going into the service. His wife and baby reside in Martin's Ferry, Ohio.
John C. KEYS, like his brother is doing military police duty being located in the Panama Canal zone, since taking his training at Ft. Custer, Mich. He entered the service Aug. 10, 1943. His wife, Mrs .Maudie KEYS and baby make their home in Sallisaw. They are sons of Mr. and Mrs. L. K. KEYS, Sacramento, Calif., former Sallisaw residents.

Cpl. James D. ROGERS entered the service February, 1943, and was stationed with the coast artillery in Texas and Louisiana before going overseas. His exact location is unknown, ut he reports that the country is "swell."
Wesley ROGERS, S. 1/C, was employed in a Ft. Smith factory before enlisting
November, 1942. He was first stationed with the Seabees at Williamsburg,
Va. and then in California before going overseas a year ago. His wife, Flossie,
makes her home in Stigler.

JOHNSON who entered the service in November of 1942 and trained at Fort Bliss, Texas and Camp Cooke, Calif. The boys have also served in Australia and New Guinea, where this picture was taken, and are now together in the Phillippines. Robert T. BREWSTER is a Sequoyah county man who was in the great battle of Saipan. The son of Mrs. Lizzie Etta BREWSTER of route 4, Muldrow, he farmed until he was called into the service October 23, 1942. BREWSTER was first stationed in California, then moved to Hawaii and stationed there until June 20 of this year, when he was sent to Saipan. He went to school at Maple. His brothers are Charlie ROE, and Hugh ROE of Muldrow, Bewell BREWSTER, Watsonville, Calif; Julian of Muldrow, and Henry BREWSTER of Jerome, Idaho. His sisters are Fleeta LANGSTON, Watsonville, Calif., Viola DUNAWAY, Bagwell, Texas, and Annie MASON of Muldrow.

Clarion E. BLEVINS has had a part in six battles in the Asiatic Pacific area, since he entered the navy January 14, 1941.his rating is seaman, first class. His basic training was at Norfolk, Va. BLEVINS, 20-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce BLEVINS, Muldrow, route 4, farmed before going into the service. He went to school at Maple and Central high. Two brothers of the service man are Carl, who lives in Richmond, Calif., and Curtis of the home; his sisters are Gladys, of Little Rock and Melba, who lives at home.

John E. HAWKINS, JR, is doing radio work for the army in the Hawaiian islands. He enlisted in the army reserve in May of 1942, and was sent to Omaha, Nev. for training in the army's radio school. He has been advanced to the rating of sergeant. The son of Mr. and Mrs. John E. HAWKINS, his wife, Marie and their 17 months-old son, John Elvin 3rd all make their home in Sallisaw, as does his sister, Lois CRABTREE. Sgt. HAWKINS was graduated from the Sallisaw high school with the class of 1934 and had been engaged in radio repair and service since that time.

Cpl. Eual Dee FISHER had a part in the invasion of France. He had been in England since Feb. 8 of this year, after being trained with a field artillery unit in Fort Sill, Camp Gordon, Ga., and after maneuvers in Louisiana. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charley FISHER who lives on route one, Sallisaw. His wife Wanna HOWELL FISHER and their year old daughter, Paulette, also live near Sallisaw. He went to school at Blackjack and Akins. He enlisted in the army January 8, 1941. Before that time he had been engaged in farming in the county. His brother is Earl, who lives near Sallisaw as do two of his sisters, Gladys WILSON and Edna SLAUGHTER. Another sisters, Mae LUCAS lives in Commerce.

Frank Thomas COKER of Muldrow heartily endoreses the navy and says its swell. He has been on sea duty as hospital apprentice for more than a year. His rating is hospital apprentice first class. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. COKER of Muldrow, he went to school there, and was engaged in defense work at the time he volunteered for service in March 1943. He has five brothers, Hugh, Jack, Sidney, Homer and Johnny, four sisters, Ruby, Della, Neva and Opal.

Evert HIXON who was born in Muldrow is located at the naval training station in Farragut, Idaho. Inducted June 14, this year, HIXON was employed by Ward's Furniture factory in Fort Smith. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. G. HIXON of Muldrow. His wife, Hazel and their two daughters, Sheryal Jean and Carole Janet also live in Muldrow.

Lodie Lessley LOLLIS is now somewhere in the Pacific with the fleet, holding the rating of storekeeper second class. He was a teletype operator at the Mare Island shipyards when he enlisted in the navy Sept. 15, 1942. After joining the navy, he was a clerk for 11 months in the San Diego base, later being transferred to Seattle, Wash. A former county resident, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. LOLLIS

Pvt. Milton C. LITTLEJOHN is stationed at Camp Hood, Tex. having gone in the service March 9, 1943. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde LITTLEJOHN who are now living in McFarland, Calif., where he went to school. At the time he entered the service, LITTLEJOHN was employed by a seed company. He made his home in Sequoyah county until the fall of 1936.

Pvt. Carl H. FULLBRIGHT is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Idus FULLBRIGHT. Now serving in the Pacific. He went in the service October 22, 1942 and has been stationed at Camp White, Ore. Fort Lewis, Wash; Camp Adair, Ore.; Camp San Luis Obispo, Calif., and Camp Beale, Calif. An infantryman, his wife is Iris FULLBRIGHT and their two-year-old daughter is named Sherron. He went to school at Sloans Chapel and later in Sallisaw. He has three sisters.

Pvt. Fred ELLIS is with the engineers corps, somewhere in the Aleutian Islands. Pvt. ELLIS first was sent to Fort Sill, when he went in the service June 3, 1942 and was later stationed at Camp Claiborn, La., from there he went to Camp Brunswick, N. J. and on to Alaska and to the Aleutians, where he has been since Nov.. 6, 1942. Before joining the army he and his father farmed. He has one brother, Manuel of Vian, three sisters, Mrs. Grace PRUETT, Mrs. Callie HOWELLand Miss Mable ELLIS all of Sallisaw.

Walton G. HOWELL has been at sea since March of this year and members of the family believe he is around Saipan and he Marshalls. Most interested in "licking the Japs' he is undecided whether to put in 20 years service with the navy and retire or to finish college when the war is over. HOWELL went in the navy October 27, 1942 and was sent to the Great Lakes naval training station. His rating now is metalsmith first class and he is aboard a carrier in the Pacific. He went to school in Okmulgee, later attended county schools, finished Muldrow high school in 1940 and went to Connor's at Warner and A. and M., Stillwater. He was a student and farmer at time he entered the service. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. G. S. HOWELL of Muldrow.

Pfc. William H. JOHNSON is a member of the medical corps. He went in the army in the spring from Fort Sill to Camp Howze, Tex.
Pfc. Charlie E. JOHNSON is a brother of William JOHNSON. They are the sons of Mrs. Nancy JOHNSON and the late Arlo J. JOHNSON of Sallisaw. Chlie JOHNSON went in the service in the summer of 1942 and was sent from Fort Sill to Laredo, Texas. They have three brothers and two sisters.(William & Charlie)

Sgt. Delmas PORTER was wounded July 11, 1944. but writes his family that he is all right.now. He is located in New Guinea having first been sent to Australia. He is a member of an infantry outfit. Sgt. PORTER's wife, Nancy and son Bobby are now in Richmond, Calif. His parents Mr. and Mrs. Robert G. PORTER live in the county. A farmer before entering the service, he has been in uniform since October 22, 1942.
