ROCKY POINT CEMETERY

The Rocky Point Cemetery is located just off U. S. Highway 59 about 12 miles north of Sallisaw in Section 20, Township 13 North Range 25 East.

The Cemetery lies along a ridge running east and west. It is fenced with the only gate in the northwest corner. It is well maintained. Rows run east and west and this listing starts in the Northwest corner reading west to east, north to south.

Rocky Point Cemetery was deeded to the County in 1914 by the Cherokee Nation from unassigned lands. In the northwest corner and in the southeast corner are graves which appear to be set apart from the rest of the cemetery. These may be some of the original graves dating back to Indian Territory days.

To reach the cemetery from Sallisaw take U. S. Highway 59 north. Take the last dirt road east before reaching the Rocky Point Store, the Cemetery is on the left hand side of the road about 1/8 mile from the blacktop. ( there is a sign on the highway).
