July 14, 1895 3:30 PM Missionary Baptist Church was organized with 7 members and named Mountain Home, later changed to Union Grove.
Aug 16, 1896 Organized a Union Sunday School with 12 names. From Aug 16 to Aug 23rd our roll climed to 43 names. Oct 1896 - 51 names.
First officers elected Jake Matheny Superintendent, J.B. Sixkiller teacher of bible class for men. W.M. Carson assistant teacher - also to take charge of the little class. Mrs. S.L. Powell secretary. We kept our Sunday School going and by the 3rd quarter of 1898 we had 91 names, also a good singing class.
May 1st 1898
by voice vote of our Sunday School, we an invitation to the new School house, for them to take a part with us in decoration of the graves at the grave yard. The first decoration was held May 28, 1898 by the Union Grove Sunday School (now Brushy Okla), then Union Grove Sequoyah District, Ind. Terr. by everyone who would took a part.
We moved to the Mountain in Feb 1893 - coming from Flint Dist. Ind. Terr. We bought out a claim from Avance Feb 1st 1894 for $100. Avance worked for Joe Powell in 1895. Dick Fouts and Mark Fouts, his brother, moved to the Mountain in the winter of 1894. We built a house on our place on the hill in the winter of 1894 and moved into it Mar 1895. Nath Denny build a new log house on one end of the Avance place. Harve Roark lived on the other end.
