  • Tidbits:
  • I corresponded with Nina Barrick Broman a couple of times back in the early 1980’s.  She did say that William and Nora were married by Rev. R.W. Weems on horseback.  She remembers her mother telling about one time she was living with Aunt Ida (that would be my great grandmother).  A cousin or some relative was hiding from the law and went to visit  Ida.  When he went to get on his horse to leave, the law was waiting for him and they shot and killed him.  Ida went over to him and the lawman knocked her away and said leave that outlaw alone.
  • She also mentioned that her grandmother, Louisa T. West Bailey had a daughter by 2nd husband James Robinson.  Her name was Florida May Robinson. I have a picture of her but don’t know what ever happened to her.  I’ve heard rumors she got hooked on morphine and kind of lost her mind.  Nina also mentions that her mother had a half sister or stepsister named Carrie Hughes.  Carrie lived in Okmulgee.  Nina thought her married name was Hughes but I imagine her maiden name was Hughes and that she was the daughter of Louisa’s 3rd husband James Henry Hughes.
  • I know little about the Barrick line, as Nina has been the only descendant of Nora’s that I have located.

Note: At the end it mentions an outlaw in the family.  Louisa T. West's brother was Perry Kincheon "Kinch" West.  A couple of her sisters were married to the Cox brothers, who were also part of Kinch's gang.  Because of this, the family was not allowed on the Indian Rolls.  Supposedly their father, William Y. "Horsefly" West was Cherokee Indian. Kinch died of natural causes, so I know it was not him that Nora was talking about who got shot in my great grandmother's front yard. Don't know if any of his kids or the Cox kids carried on their father's ways or not.
