BEAR -- Mary Evelyn, was born December 8, 1933, in Neodesha, OK, to Hatchett and Mary (Collins) Dyer. She passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2006, at the age of 72 years.
She graduated from Wagoner High School in 1950. Evelyn graduated from Northeastern State University, with a B.S. Degree in Speech and Hearing Therapy. She then earned her Master's Degree in Education and in School Administration. Evelyn was a Special Education Teacher and School Administrator in the Hissom Memorial Center, in the Sand Springs Schools for 25 years. She had received many awards including the Partners for Excellence Award in 1986, for School Public Relations and the Teacher Pacesetter Award by the Board of Education, from the Sand Springs Schools. During the closing of the Hissom Memorial Center School in 1990, she received the Award for Dedication to the Sand Springs Public Schools.
Evelyn was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Tulsa. She had served as Chairman of the Christian Business and Professional Women and was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma. After her retirement, she earned the Tulsa Public Schools Award for Excellence Volunteer of the Year for work with Marshall Elementary School.
Evelyn is survived by: her brother, David Dyer and wife, Linda; and sister, Linda King and husband, Jim, all of Wagoner; niece, Mary Mooney; nephew, Dolph Koch; and other relatives.
Graveside service for Mary Evelyn Bear will be at 2 p.m., Monday, September 18, 2006, in Elmwood Cemetery, Wagoner, with Rev. Ed Bateman officiating. The family request memorial donations be made to Marshall Elementary Gifts and Endowment Fund, 1142 E. 56th, Tulsa, OK 74105.
