This old and respected citizen of Harriston and Minto, was b. in Argylshire, Scot., in 1822, and was there raised and learned the trade of blacksmith. He came to Canada, in 1848, and set. at Erin village, where he pursued his trade successfullly for thirteen years. In 1861, he sold his property in Erin, and came to Minto, purchasing and settling on 200 acres, at Cotswold. This farm he cleared, and lived upon until 1892, when he retired to Harriston. He m. Agnes Greenless. Issue: Edward, Archibald G., Annie, John Jr., Mrs. Alexander McLennan, Mrs. Daniel Robertson, Agnes, Margaret J., William F., Clara, Robert, and Hugh. John Darroch, came to Canada, and started life without means, and by industry and good business management, he accumulated a competency and became one of the most influential and respected citizens of Minto. He raised and educated a large family, who are prosperous in the different walks of life that they have chosen. John Darroch, was honored by a long term in municipal office, being Dep. Reeve, in Minto, for two years, and Reeve for eight consecutive years. He is a member of the Disciple church, and a Liberal. Archibald Darroch, his son, m. Ellen Wiseman, and owns and lives on the old homestead. This farm, with its up-to-date improvements, is one of the best in Minto, and "Archie" Darroch, as he is familiarly called, is one of the largest and most prosperous farmers.
