Toronto: Historical Atlas Publishing Co, 1906, reprint 1972. p. 53 MURNAHAN, JAMES (d.), was b. in Co. Armagh, Ire., 1802. d. Erin, 1884. He received a fair education, and in 1835, came to Canada. He remained three years in York, (now Toronto), when he went to Cincinnatti, Ohio, which was then only a struggling hamlet, there he worked at the waggon maker's trade for eleven years. In 1846, he m. Diana Clark. She was b. in Yorkshire, Eng., in 1826, and came with her parents to Va., in 1830, later settling in Cincinnati, where she met Mr. Murnahan. In 1849, they left Cincin., and came to Canada. He purchased 100 acres of bush land, lot 28, con. 4, Erin Tp., upon which they settled. Erin Village, ten miles distant, was their nearest postoffice, and the settlers in the locality were few. They cleared the farm and raised their family there. He was an energetic man, a good mechanic, and was much respected. The family were brought up in the Roman Catholic church. Issue: Daniel J., Mrs. Joseph Breese, Mrs. James Cunningham, John, Mrs. Casper Coaster, Mrs. C. Vitoskie, Mrs. George Huston, Mrs. John Callaghan, James, Nellie, and Mrs. James Haney. James, m. Mary Miller, and lives on the old homestead in Erin, which he owns. Daniel J., m. Catherine Kelly, set. Winnipeg. John, is a prosperous farmer in Guelph Tp., where he owns 200 acres of land on the Eramosa road, and carries on mixed farming. He is unm., and his mother and sister keep house for him.
