On occassion I come across some information in the local newspapers that gives some insight into the daily lives of Dufferin County's inhabitants. I intend to add more subject areas to this list.

DUFFERIN
This is a new county formed out of portion of Wellington, Simcoe and Grey. The soil is mostly a clay loam, although in one section it is light and rather rough land. The leading cereals are the principal farm products. The price of the best land runs from $30 to $40 (£6 to £8 sterling), per acre. Farms of 100 acres with 60 to 70 acres cleared, and log buildings, can be had for $2500 to $3000 (£500 to £600 sterling); and wild lots for from $1000 to $1500 (£200 to £300), per 100 acres. Rented farms bring from $2 to $2.50 (8s to 10s sterling), for cleared portions. In one of the townships - Garafraxa- there is a good deal of improved stock; but not much elsewhere in the county. The county town, Orangeville, is a very thriving place, and an excellent market centre. The Toronto Grey & Bruce, and Credit Valley Railways, supply Dufferin with abundant means of communication in all directions.
