Names being researched: Maywood / Sharpe / Mahood
Time period: 1871
My grandfather, James Alexander Sharpe Mahood, was born in Ontario about 1886 to Martha Mahood (born 1 Dec 1861, Ireland) and a Mr. Sharpe. The latter apparently died between 1890 and 1896. Martha Mahood Sharpe gave her children, including James, Pearl and ?, to her mother's care. Margaret Brady (b. 22 Sept 1821, Monoghan, Ireland) raised the children with the Mahood surname. Margaret was married to Thomas Mahood (b 17 May 1922, Dromore Parish, Ireland). Martha was born in Ireland and moved to Ontario with her parents. The Mahoods raised Martha's children near Muskoka. Martha apparently went to Warren, Ohio to work as a cook. She moved to Vancouver in 1901 and died in 1934, still using her married surname of Sharpe. My grandfather, on his 1911 Vancouver marriage registration, showed his father's name as "Sharpe Mahood" and his mother's name as "Martha Maywood". I presume he didn't care to explain the situation accurately.
