DIED IN HIS 89TH YEAR
MR. A. BURRITT WAS A RESIDENT
OF MEAFORD FOR 56 YEARS
MEAFORD EXPRESS (FEB. 9, 1923) - An old and esteemed resident of Meaford in the person of Mr. Adoniram Burritt passed away at his home here on Wednesday afternoon in the eighty-ninth year of his age. The deceased, who had been ailing for some time, was born in the village of Augusta, Township of Maitland, near the St. Lawrence River, in 1834, where in 1867, he was married to Miss Mary McDougald, coming to Meaford the same year. His family were U.E. Loyalists and he was a descendant of Barbara Heck, who was one of the first to introduce Methodism into Canada. Mr. Burritt was a blacksmith by occupation and started business for himself after coming to Meaford, which he continued to carry on for quite a number of years. After disposing of the business he worked as a journeyman blacksmith in Michigan every summer for the period of nine years, spending each winter at his home here. Since then he lived a practically retired life, his advanced age and declining state of health making.........(rest of obit missing)
