MEAFORD EXPRESS (1925) - The death occurred Saturday evening of a well know resident of Meaford in the person of Mr. Alex McInnis. Mr. McInnis suffered a stroke last November and had been in very poor health since that time. Quite recently he became much worse and the end was not unexpected. Mr. McInnis was in his 50th year and widely known and highly respected through Meaford and district. He was in business for about ten years in a confectionery shop and ice cream parlor opposite the Market Square.
The deceased was born at Cape Rich, a son of the late Duncan McInnis, Sr., of the place, and came to Meaford about thirty-five years ago, following fishing as an occupation until eleven years ago, when he started in business for himself, conducting a confectionery and ice cream parlor opposite the market square. This he carried on with marked success until last April, when, owing to ill health, he sold out to Mr. Bertram Brown, subsequently moving to a private dwelling on Bayfield street. Twenty-six years ago this month he was married to Miss Georgina Oliver, daughter of the late James Oliver, who survives him.
The late Mr. McInnis was a Presbyterian in religion, a ready contributor to every good cause, a lover of clean sport, especially hockey, fair and upright in his dealings, and one who had the confidence and esteem of all who knew him. His death at an age slightly beyond the prime of life is deeply regretted, and his name will be cherished as a broken link in the chain of human affection and friendship.
Besides the widow there are left to mourn one girl, 10 years old and four brothers and two sisters: Kenneth and William McInnis, of Collingwood; Norman, of Port McNicoll; Duncan of Meaford; Mrs. Henry Playter and Mrs. John Wallace, of Toronto.
The funeral took place from his late residence Tuesday afternoon to Lakeview Cemetery.
