Grey County GenWeb Obituaries from the Past
MEAFORD EXPRESS (Dec. 1920) - A deep gloom was cast over the town by the tragic death of Mr. James Sparling, who for many years carried on the Sparling planing mill in Meaford. Deceased was about as usual yesterday morning and had gone to the barn at the rear of the factory and fed the delivery horse and in leaving the stable, fell over and expired. Some time after Mr. Angus McIntosh found his lifeless body at the stable door and gave the alarm. The late Mr. Sparling had been connected with the planing mill business for more than fifty years, starting as a young man in Mr. J.J. Johnston's factory on Nelson Street. After a few years he became a partner with the late David McCann and later conducted the business on his own.
