196 Kay, Blair
My great-grandfather Andrew Kay came to Grey County probably in the late 1860s. He either came with his older brother Alexander from Fife, Scotland or followed him shortly after. Andrew was born in Collanine, Fife, Scotland Jan 8, 1841 and Alexander was born July 13.1834 in Monimail, Scotland and they were the sons of John Kay and his wife Cecilia Hulton Watson. Andrew was a carpenter and Alexander was a shoe- maker. Andrew married Mary Blair the daughter of James and MArgaret Blair about 1869 and they came to Kent County in the early 1870s and Alexander remained in Grey County. I believe James and Margaret had 7 children, James, Margaret, William, Robert, John, Elizabeth and Mary. I believe both James and Margaret were born in Scotland about 1800? Any info would be appreciated. I had heard of a book about the Blair of Grey County?? Thank again, Ken    Posted on Mon Jan 2 12:26:39 2006

226 HUSTON
Looking or any school records or info on my Great Grandfather William John Huston, born Nov 25/1867 Owen Sound Edna Ray Smith his wife, married Jan 14/1903 in Fort William, Ontario. Father listed as Alex Huston (Alexander)- Mother listed as Sarah Cameron (Huston) All my research has his birth record being for a William John Huston on Jan 26/1876 to a Sarah Huston at the residence of William Huston a Sarawak Farmer. A book on Century Farms of Sarawak Township has a listing for The Huston Century Farm, this book was written in 1973 and the resident of the home at that time was listed as Amsden Delbert Huston. It had been the home of William and Esther Parks Huston and their 12 children. Many Census record and the Birth record I have mention name a Sarah who I believe was a servant or hired help until she became pregnant and had a boy named William. The Alexander mentioned could have been the father and possibly died of left before they were married thus the record stating an illegitimate child. This of course is just guessing but if any body descendant from this family or possibly a similar story might lead me to my great-great grandparents and possibly farther. 237 WALKER, KILGOUR
I am trying to find a death date and place for Simon P Walker who lived in Mt Forest. The 1865 Directory places him there and living with his inlaws the Robert Kilgour Family. His wife Janet/Janette (Kilgour)Walker is found in the 1871 census as a widow with one child, a son Robert Walker. According to a news paper article Dec 1870, she asked for a widow exemption in 1870, so I am assuming Simon P Walker died in the 1870 year. I have been to Mt Forest and searched for a cemetery and death record without success. The archives in Toronto don't have a death record for him either. I have read where small children under 18 who are left without a father must have a guardianship hearing even though the mother is living. Does anyone know anything about that? Perhaps a court record would give a clue. Can anyone out there help???? Carol    Posted on Fri Sep 28 13:11:26 2007

Would like to get information on the following WHITE family. My Great Aunts Jane and Agnes AITKIN (ATKINS)married brothers William and George WHITE respectively in January 1881. Both couples are shown in the 1881 census in Collingwood, Grey East, living in the same residence. The brothers would have been born in the early 1850's. Both of the Aunts passed away in spring of 1882. Jane and William had a daughter Jane(Gee)before her death. George then married a third AITKIN sister, Margaret (Maggie) in 1897. They had two boys, Clarence Ivan and Earl Chester. I do not know what happened to William. Would like to hear from you and fill in the White information in the Aitkin tree.    Posted on Sat Feb 9 15:12:43 2008

WEBBER, RITCHIE, MEAD, LINNELL, FOX, HORTON, ELVIDGE, SIMS, VOLLETT, PETTIE     Carol
I found a family portrait photo from Grey Co, Ontario that I would like to see go to someone related to these people, as I am not. On back there is a detailed inscription as follows: "Bill Ritchie, "Mother," George WEBER, Charlie RITCHIE, Annie PETTIE (Mrs. Alf VOLLETT), Charlotte WEBER (Mrs. Chas. Ritchie), Susie WEBER (Mrs. John Sims) & Sadie RITCHIE. Annie Pettie's mother was Leony MEAD, Grandma LINNELL's sister. Charlotte and Susie were sisters and their mother was Sarah MEAD, Grandma LINNELL's sister. Grandma's sister Lizzie was Mrs. Locke Elvidge in Durham. Another sister was MRs. Horton in Collingwood. The photo was probably taken around 1908-1910. I found a Charles and Charlotte RITCHIE (nee WEBBER, born 1883) in the 1911 Census in Grey Co. Bentinck. They had one son at the time, Norman, age 2. Charlotte Webber Ritchie's parents were Sarah MEAD and Robert WEBBER. Charles RITCHIE, born 1881 was the son of William RITCHIE and Caroline FOX. Charlotte and William were married Dec 23 1908. If you think this might be your family, please email me.    Posted on Mon Jan 12 14:43:06 2009

HEWITT     H. Hewitt
I am a descendant of Thomas Hewitt who settled in Artemesia Township, between Flesherton and Markdale, in the mid 1850s with his mother Mary Hewitt. I am searching for the descendants of Henry his brother, along with Mary and Elizabeth Hewitt. I do not know if the latter 2 married, nor if so their husband's surnames. It could be possible that one of the 2 girls married a Whitty, so if you have this surname, it could be revealing. We came from the townland of Clonroot in the county of Armagh, near the town of Portadown in Northern Ireland. Please contact me if you have Hewitt relations from this area.    Posted on Fri Aug 21 12:57:52 2009

Martin/ Docherty     Robert W. Martin
Alexander and his wife Mary Martin are listed on the 1861 census for Egremont Township living with their daughter, Rachel Docherty, on Lot 17 Concession 11. Both are lissted as 75, born in Ieland and members of the Presbyterian Free Church. he is listed as a labourer. Rachel is listed as 47, head., born Ireland, English Church By 1871 Rachel and family had moved to Kansas and I have records from then. No mention of Alexander and Rachel is made in Kansas. I presume they died in Egremont Township before 1871. No death or burial record for them has been found. If any one knows anything about them I would appreciate hearing from them. They are my great great great grandparents. Robert W. Martin    Posted on Sun Oct 4 16:53:11 2009

CLARK     Racheal Clark
Looking to nail down my Clarks in this area. Have located John age 40 and Eliza Ann in 1891 census Page 50, District 61? Grey East, Township Melancthon, Division 1. The children are correct. *of note: John's parents places of birth are listed as father: England and mother: Ireland. Have located again in 1881 census Page 46, District 155 East Grey, Melancthon Township, (possibly division 1 again, note is handwritten)They are listed as John age 30 and Elizabeth Clark"E", the children again are correct. *of note: John is listed of Irish origin here. We know that John married again after Eliza's death, I did find a marriage record listing his parents as Stephen Clark and Margaret Lindsay. This may or may not be correct. I can't seem to find any entries for them on any of the census'. I also cannot locate the marriage record for John Clark and Eliza Montgomery, they would have been married around 1874, or prior. Their first child was born around 1874. Eliza's parents were James Montgomery and Catharine Huston. Any help would be appreciated, we would like to know where the Clarks originate so we can trace them. Thanks    Posted on Fri Oct 30 15:45:37 2009
