*Haliburton County is located in Central Ontario Canada just to the
southwest of Algonquin Park. The area was settled in the latter years of
immigration (mid 1850s) when lands in Southern Ontario were all taken.
Children of those settlers and new immigrants were led to believe that they
might be able to establish farms in an area too rugged and rocky for that
purpose but valuable mainly for lumber.
