Obituary of Mary Hamilton wife of William Plunkett of Hullett Township died October 1908

GODERICH SIGNAL - NOVEMBER 5, 1908

DIED AS RESULT OF OPERATION - Mrs William Plunkett, of the 14 concession of Hullett, went to London last week for the purpose of having an operation performed. The operation terminated fatally. Mrs. Plunkett was a daughter of the late Thomas Hamilton of Colborne, and was about forty-eight years of age. She leaves a family of two sons and two daughters and her partner in life to mourn the loss of a fond mother and affectionate wife. Her remains were interred in Ball’s cemetery, base line, Hullett.

GODERICH STAR - NOVEMBER 13, 1908

- Daughter of Jane & Thomas Hamilton

It is our sad duty to record the death of one of our most respected residents in the person of Mrs. Mary Plunkett, wife of William Plunkett, of the township of Hullett, near Auburn. She departed this life on Thursday, October 20th, at the age of 48 years, after a long and severe illness which she bore with patience and true Christian fortitude. She had been attended by the best medical skill, both local and from a distance, that could be procured, but love nor skill could delay for her the common lot of all. It is not fulsome praise to say she was beloved by all her own connections and esteemed and respected by all her neighbors. She leaves behind her a large number of sorrowing relatives, and sincere sympathy is extended to her husband, who feels her loss most keenly, and four children, two boys and two girls, who thus early are deprived of a loving mother.

She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Thomas Hamilton, of Colborne and five brothers and five sisters. Thomas and David and Miss Lena and Mrs. Albert Goldthorpe, all of Colborne; Mrs. Richard Sprung, Hullett; George, of the Klondike; Dr. Joseph Hamilton of Michigan; Dr. Benson Hamilton, of Belgrave; and Mrs. Sam H. Johnston and Mrs. James H. Johnston, of West Wawanosh. The funeral was attended by a large concourse of friends and neighbors in Ball’s Cemetery. The pall-barers were Robt. McGee, John Pfeffer, Mark Armstrong, John Thompson, John McOlinchy and Robert Johnston. The officiating clergymen were the Rev. Mr. Johes, of Auburn, and the Rev. Mr. Hartley, of Blyth.

Submitter Janice Hamilton Howe Durham, North Carolina

Note: This obit is the sibling of Dr. Benson Hamilton (my grandfather). She also submits obits for her grandmother Ella Ross Hamilton wife of Benson Hillyard Hamilton, as well as her father John Ross and her mother Jane Robson Ross.
