Obituary Alexander Morton. died East Wawanosh township May 21, 1913 May 29, 1913, Wingham Times Morton In East Wawanosh township on May 21, 1913 Alexander Morton aged 84 years and 6 months. June 5, 1913, Wingham Times East Wawanosh Another of the old residents of East Wawanosh has passed away in the person of Alexander Morton of the 6th Concession of East Wawanosh. Mr. Morton was born in Arbroath, Scotland on 28 November 1822. He came with his wife and family to America in April 1854 and lived for a time in Beverly Township [Wentworth County] coming to East Wawanosh in 1861. The family lived for 8 years on the 10th Concession then moved to the farm they purchased on the 6th Concession where he has since resided until called to a Higher Home on Wednesday May 21, 1913. Mr. Morton was a man of sterling qualities. Mrs. Morton predeceased him in death by about 4 years. All the remaining members of his family attended the funeral which took place on Saturday May 24, 1913 to Brandon Cemetery, Belgrave. (Same in Wingham Advance.) *Note that year of birth on gravestone is 1828 and this agrees with age at death in obituary. 6 Jun 1913 Huron Expositor, p. 4, col. 4. Huron Notes - Mr. Alexander Morton, one of the pioneer settlers of East Wawanosh, died at his home on the sixth concession on May 22nd. He was a native of Arbroath, Scotland, was ninety-one years of age and had resided in East Wawanosh since 1861, first on the tenth concession and afterwards on the sixth. Mr. Morton was a man of sterling character and studious mind. Being of a retiring disposition he was better understood by those most intimate with him, and best appreciated by those nearest and dearest to him.
