Kent County Census Records
The earliest census of Kent County is 1851, though there is also an 1846 census for some areas, which is only head-of-household. There was a census of Canada West in 1842, but the Western District, which is where Kent County would have been enumerated, was destroyed at some point. Census enumerations of the entire household were done every ten years beginning in 1851 (1861, 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901 and 1911 are available). The latest census record open to the public is 1911. There is also the 1940-1946 Census Substitute. The National Registration File of 1940 resulted from the compulsory registration of all persons, 16 years of age or older, in the period from 1940 to 1946, and it's a great way to find an ancestor. See details at Olive Tree Genealogy Census records are available on microfilm and you should be able to get them by Inter-Library Loan from the National Archives in Ottawa; check with your local library or Family History Center. There are also online indexes:
