Twaddle Burying Grounds

Burials - approx 1832 - 1858.

The above pictures show what is left of the Twaddle Burying Ground, located on Concession 2, Lot 12 (east) of North Sherbrooke Township.  Apparently the site size was 13' x 9' - believed buried here are:

Robert Twaddle born in Parkhead, Scotland and married in Carmichael, Lanarkshire, Scotland on the 28th of October, 1798 to Marion (Mirren) Couper (Cooper). They came to Canada in 1821 and settled on the above lot. Robert died in March of 1858, age 79 years.

In 1853, Robert Twaddle sold the north-west half of the front or east half of Lot 12 (east), concession 2, with the following notation;

"Reserving the burying ground thereon, thirteen feet by nine feet broad and a foot path leading thereto, for the benefit of my family forever."  The property  is now owned by Sandy and Cinda McAdoo.

(Son) Thomas Twaddle, born in Scotland and emigrated in 1821 with his parents.  On the 10th of February, 1832, he married at Lanark to E. Smith, probably the daughter of Robert Smith of Nova Scotia. Thomas died around 1832.

(Son) James Twaddle, born in Scotland and emigrated in 1821 with his parents. On the 6th of January, 1849, he married Mary Kay Hossack.  James died around 1850.

Other members of the family, not known to be buried here are:

(Daughter) Agnes "Nanny", 1814-1904.  She married on the 18th of April, 1834, by Rev. George Watson to Donald McDougald, who died in 1847. Her second husband was James Gilchrist who she married on the 20th of January, 1851. 

(Daughter) Jane 1815-1896.  She married George McConnell and they moved to Westmeath, Renfrew County.

(Daughter) Marion, "1819-1899. She was born in Shettleston, Barony Parish, Glasgow, Scotland. She married James Love 1812-1894 and is buried in the Crawford cemetery without a headstone.
