The Manitoulin Genealogy Club
Is requesting your help in collecting data of the Howland Townships history. The Club is publishing a book with the areas families as well as the history of the areas. The deadline is March 1, 2009 and we do not want to omit anyone. So please take the time to put your family story together for inclusion accompanied with a photo if possible. (the areas involved : Honora, Rockville, Ten Mile Point, Little Current, Sheguiandah, Sheguiandah First Nation, Sucker Creek (Aundeck Omni Kaning),Green Bush, Green Bay, Bidwell. Some information to include:
When did your family come to the Island
Where did they move to if didn't stay?
How did they travel here?
Remember to include maiden names.
Where did your family come from?
Why did your family come to the Island?
When and where the members of your family born, married, died and the location of their resting place?
Do you have a picture of your family member in a group shot, wedding, or individual photo?
One chapter is dedicated to all armed forces personal past and present (including the merchant marines, and support groups) with their picture in uniform preferably include, rank, battalion, year of birth year, of death, parents, injuries sustained, or cemetery overseas
"PLEASE NOTE": that any picture you supply will be scanned and returned ASAP if scanning your own use the setting of 600 dpi greyscale

Why Oral History?
An oral history accentuates and completes our documented family history. When we think of genealogical research we think of libraries, archives and county courthouses, but we often forget our most valuable resource -- our living family. Learn the steps to highlight your family history.

Biographical Sketch of Presenter
Kathleen Ann LaBudie-Szakall has been doing genealogical research for 28 years. She has traced some of her lines back to the 1670s in Prussian Poland. Kathleen co-authored Finding Your Polish Ancestors as a companion text for a six-week internet genealogical course on Polish genealogy offered by the National Institute for Genealogical Studies under the auspices of the University of Toronto. Having served on the board of directors of the Polish Genealogical Society of Michigan for 28 years, Kathleen has at times been their president, vice president, recording secretary, and editor of PGSM’s journal, The Polish Eaglet. Kathleen served as index editor of The Detroit Society for Genealogical Research. A member of several branches of the Ontario Genealogical Society, Kathleen is currently Chair of the Bruce & Grey Branch. She is an active volunteer at the Family History Centre in Owen Sound, Ontario. Kathleen has been a featured speaker throughout Ontario, Michigan, and Minnesota.

Traps and Pitfalls in Genealogical Research
Discussion of some traps and pitfalls to avoid when researching your family history. Topics discussed will include dealing with relationship terminology, first names, transcriptions, indexes, family legends and more.

Biographical Sketch of Presenter
Roberta Clark has been doing genealogical research for ten years. She has traced her Acadian roots back to the late 1500's. She has also traced her husband’s Manitoulin roots back to the early 1800's, late 1700's. She is a member of the Ontario Genealogical Society and is currently the Newsletter editor of the Bruce-Grey Branch. She is also the co-creator, along with Marilyn Irish of the Rootsweb database, Manitoulin Roots. She is currently enrolled in the National Institute of Genealogical Studies through the University of Toronto. Roberta and her husband, Dan have three children and live in Owen Sound, Ontario.
