Obituary - N.H. DINSMORE PASSES AWAY
Succumbs to Lengthy Illness at County Sanitorium
Border Cities Star-After an illness extending over more than four years, Nelson Howard Dinsmore, youngest brother of Samuel E. Dinsmore, president of the S.E. Dinsmore Construction Company, died Monday afternoon, Sept. 24th in the Essex Crounty Sanatorium. He was in his 30th year. Left school in 1921
Born in Mills, Manitoulin Island, Ont., he came to Southern Ontario in his youth, where he received his education. After leaving his home in 1921 he was engaged with his brother's construction firm, until he became ill in the early part of 1924, necessitating his removal to hospital. He later entered the sanitorium at Gravenhurst, and finally came to the Essex County institution.
His first illness was contracted while he was assisting his brother in the laying of the pipe line for the border cities filtration plant. A heavy cold contracted there led to the more serious illness which culminated in his death.
Death Came Suddenly
Although it had been known for some time that there was little chance for Mr. Dinsmore's recovery, his death came suddenly and unexpectedly. Members of his family were unable to reach his bedside before he passed away. His mother, Mrs. Mary A. Dinsmore of Manitoulin Island has been here for the past six weeks, however, and paid her last visit to him on Sunday.
He is survived by his mother and five brothers, Samuel E. Dinsmore of Sandwich; John Dinsmore of Gore Bay, Ont.; Milton Dinsmore of Sault Ste.Marie, Ont.; William Dinsmore, of Manitoulin Island and Sidney Dinsmore, of Sandwich .
The remains were shipped to his old home, Manitoulin Island, where the funeral took place on Thursday, interment being made in Mills cemetery. Rev. Swainson conducted the service.

George Dixon Dead
When it became known on Friday evening last, that Geo. Dixon Sr. had died at his residence, Gore Bay, it created little surprise as the end had been expected for some days. Mr. Dixon had not been too well for the last year, but during the last few months had been sinking slowly. Some three weeks ago his two absent daughters, Mrs. Wm. Purvis, and Mrs. Linden Thorn, came down from Selkirk and Brandon, to see him before it might be too late. As the end was apparently near, they remained with him until he passed away last Friday evening about nine o'clock.
Mr. Dixon was an Englishman by birth and when quite a young man, enlisted and spent eleven years in the British army, a greater part of this time being spent in India. He was in several battles that stand out prominent in English History. He was one of the brave men who fought their way through India under Havelock. He was in the front at the relief of Lucknow when the Scotch Lassie heard the Pilbroch, a sound so familiar to her native hills. He was with Havelock in the besieged city and remained there until reinforcements came to liberate them, as they were then on the point of starvation.
Mr. Dixon returned to England, got married and subsequently came to Canada. He lived in the County of Grey for a number of years, moving to this Island about 20 years ago. He leaves a widow, four daughters and two sons; Mrs. Wm. Purvis, Mrs. Alex Purvis, Mrs. Wm. Dinsmore, Mrs. Linden Thorn, Henry and Geo. Dixon.
He was a staunch member of the English Church, industrious and honourable and an upright man. The Town Flag hung at halfmast on Saturday out of respect to his memory. His remains were followed to the Gordon Cemetery on Sunday last by a large concourse of people who turned out in large numbers to pay their last tribute of respect to the remains of a brave old British soldier.

Sad Drowning Accident Lyla Donaldson Lost Through Thin Ice
A very sad accident took place at Ice Lake on Thursday evening last, when the little six year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Donaldson wandered away from the house and ventured out on the thin ice. She disappeared from her home about three o’clock in the afternoon and her mother thinking she had gone to her grandmother’s place she did not think anything of it till Mr. Donaldson returned from his work about six o’clock. It was then learned that she had not gone to her grandmother’s place and a searching party immediately set out. The ice on the lake was not strong enough to hold a man up, making it difficult to search the lake, but by using boards Mr. Peter Donaldson managed to get out to a hole in the ice and there the body of the little girl was found standing up in about five feet of water, and in her hand she still held a stick. It was about 7:30 p.m. when her body was found.
The funeral took place on Saturday to Gordon cemetery, and was conducted by Rev. John A. MacDonald. Mr. and Mrs. Donaldson have the most sincere sympathy of their friends and neighbors in their sad bereavement.
