husband of Robin of Thamesford. Loving father of Todd and his wife
Diane of Stow, Ohio and Nicole and friend Brad and cherished grandson
Mason all of Otterville. Survived by a brother David and his wife

Paul was raised in Thamesford and on Manitoulin Island at their

married his best friend in 1962, and they settled in Thamesford. Paul
was very involved in the community, serving as village Trustee, Hydro

always lending a helping hand. Paul retired after 30 years at Bell

well known for the odd prank and being somewhat of a klutz at times.
He spread his humour and happiness throughout his life. Paul's
happiest times were spent at their summer residence on Manitoulin
Island and his ultimate joy was his boats, fishing poles and famous
fish stories. Paul cared deeply for his family and the many people he
met over the years, which resulted in many lasting friendships.
A celebration of Paul's life took place at the Harland B. Betzner
Funeral Home in Thamesford on Sunday, December 16, 2001 with Reverend
Roger McCombe officiating. Cremation. As an expression of sympathy

CATHERINE GORDON
THE LATE MRS. J. GORDON
Mrs. John Gordon, whose maiden name was Catherine McDonald, was born in the year 1844, in T oronto Township, near Toronto, Ont. When she was18 years of age, the family removed to the township of Walpole, County of Haldimand. Here she became the wife of Mr. John Gordon.
They came to the Island of Manitoulin in the autumn of 1878, and settled first in the Township of Howland near Little Current.
About two years afterwards they removed to the 8th concession of Carnarvon. As the farm, taken up there, was rocky, they again bought land in Campbell, near Providence Bay, the farm being that on which the subject of this notice passed away.
The report of Mrs. Gordon's death came as shock to the community as she had been in her usual health, her illness lasting only about twenty minutes. Death was due to heart failure.
Her sorrow-stricken husband and one son, John, mourn the loss of a kind and loving wife and mother. Out of a family of ten, two of whom died in childhood, only four survive. Mrs. Burch, of Ice Lake, Mrs. Foster of Toronto and John and George of the 14th Concession of Campbell Township. Mrs. Gordon possessed a large heart with a sympathy and kindness that endear d her to many and that will not soon be forgotten. She lived a consistent Christian life and God called her suddenly away, with but short duration of suffering. In religion she belonged to the Brethren.

George was born in Campbell Township May 11, 1907, on the farm hewn from primeval forests by his grandparents John and Catharine (McDonald) Gordon. George was a person of extreme patience and perseverance; he was always so willing to be a helpful neighbour when the occasion arose. He will be missed in his community. The funeral service was from the Providence Bay United Church, April 21, with Mr. Stephen Fletcher officiating, who spoke words of comfort and read passages of Scripture that were most consoling to all of us who mourn his passing. Most comforting of the Scripture Readings was and I quote: "But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others who have no hope." First Thessalonians 4:13 Hymns chosen and read by Mr. Fletcher, "A Wonderful Saviour is Jesus my Lord" and "I Know That My Redeemer Liveth," too, were comforting.

HEDLEY GOODYEAR GORDON
1922 – 2009
Gone Fishin'. H.G. "Doc" Gordon passed away suddenly on March 15th after a brief illness. Doc was a long time resident of Kincardine, Ontario and was the owner of Gordon Pharmacy for the years between the early '50s until he sold the business in the mid '70s. For the following three decades Doc divided his time between Kincardine and Manitoulin Island. All his life Doc was an avid fisherman and sports fan. No trout was too cunning, no hockey player too clever to outwit the trolling line or arm chair coaching. From spring 'til fall, Doc would spend his days on Lake Manitou, trolling for lake trout, entertaining his Manitoulin friends and enjoying the sunsets. In the latter few years, Ann and Doc would enjoy their drives around the Island, visiting their favourite spots and restaurants. Winter months were spent in Kincardine, where sports, feeding the birds and daily shopping trips filled his days. The Maple Leafs have lost one of their most ardent fans, the lake trout will be chasing one less lure. Doc will be missed by his wife Ann, four daughters Joanne, (David McCallum), Mary Helen (Steve Musselman), Carol (Tony Piggin), Heather, (Mark Herron), his sister Mary Mackett and brother-in-law Robert Mackett of Toronto, and grandchildren Sarah, Tanner, Dayna, Grace and James. Doc was predeceased by his son John in 1960. Memorial donations to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 183, and the Kincardine United Church would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. Cremation has taken place and at Doc's request, a private family gathering will be held. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, 757 Princes Street, Kincardine, ON N2Z 1Z5, (519) 396-2701. Portrait and memorial online at www.daveylinklaterfuneralhome.com.

Frank Gorrell, Wife and father-in-Law Asphyxiated
Mr. Frank Gorrell, formerly a resident of Gore Bay, his wife and her father are dead as a result of their experience in a coal mine which is on their farm in Saskatchewan. It appears that Mr. Weatherhead, Mrs. Gorrell’s father, went to the mine to get some coal, and when the wind is from the south there is a deadly gas in this mine. While passing the mine about twenty minutes later Frank took a look down the pit and saw his father-in-law lying on the bottom. He immediately sent his little boy to the house for his wife and Mrs. Weatherhead. When they arrived he took his wife’s apron and tied it over his mouth and proceeded to rescue the old man while his wife went for help. Frank scarcely got a rope securely around the body of the old man when he was overcome by the gas and when Mrs. Gorrell returned she dashed down the mine to rescue her father and her husband was soon overcome by the gas. The three lifeless bodies were taken out of the mine four hours later.
Mr. and Mrs. Gorrell have one child, a boy about five years old, who witnessed the sad death of this father and mother.
