Obituary
Thomas Lougheed
The late Thos. Lougheed passed away from the scenes of this life on July 4th.
Mr. Lougheed was born in Ireland in 1833 and was consequently in his 85th year which patriarchal age he would have attained on the 1st of Oct. if he had lived. He was ten years of age when he came with his parents to Canada. The family located in Simcoe County, Ont. where Mr. Lougheed remained for thirty-four years.
In 1877 he accompanied by his son T. R. now of Gore Bay, came to Manitoulin Island. A few months later the other members of the family removed here. The family located on the homestead on the 13th conc. of Campbell where Mr. Lougheed spent the remainder of his days. At first they had only two neighbours within five miles so that the Island was very much a wilderness, and people made their way from place to place by means of the blaze on the trees. The usual way of access to this part of Manitoulin in those days, was by boat to the head of Lake Kagawong and then by jumper in summer the balance of the way
Mr. Lougheed was anxious to have a school in the neighbourhood and gave a site for school purposes where Grimesthorpe School stands.
He was a typical Irish character, outspoken in his way and free and ready in his manner and had a sturdy strong constitution such as is possessed by but few. Even quite recently he was wont to take journeys on foot that would have fatigued a much younger person.
He was an enthusiastic Orangeman and was for sixty-seven years a member of the Orange Order.
He in common with others passed through the trials common to pioneer life. His faithful life-partner who shared life’s burdens with him predeceased him several years ago.
He is survived by four sons and three daughters. T.R. of Gore Bay, James and John of Grimesthorpe, Rev. Albert W. of Winnipeg, Mrs. Belton of Gore Bay, Mrs. Wm. Langtree of Britainville and Mrs. J. McMillan of Grimesthorpe.
The funeral was largely attended and the remains were laid at rest in Grimesthorpe cemetery.

Fatal accident at Mindemoya
James Love Killed in His Barn on Friday
While unloading oats in his barn at Mindemoya on Friday morning Mr. James Love met a sudden and painful death. He was standing on a beam at the top of the barn operating part of the unloader when the rope gave away and the heavy load drew the machine back suddenly, catching him in the side as it went and throwing him out through the sides f the barn falling on his face in the barn yard. When picked up, he was unconscious and never revived, passing away at noon. The force with which he was thrown may be imagined from the fact that when his body struck the wall of the barn, the boards were smashed and his body landed at least ten feet away from the barn. He was badly bruised and possibly injured internally.
The deceased was a pioneer on the Manitoulin, coming her 45 years ago from Dundas. He leaves five daughters and one son, besides his widow, to mourn his death. John, at home, being his only son. SUFFERS HEART SEIZURE ON HUNTING TRIP NEAR LACLOCHE
The body of Keith Lovelace, aged 51 years, of Little Current, was found on Thursday morning in Sturgeon Cove on LaCloche Island, in his boat, which apparently run up on shore after the owner had died while at the controls.
Lovelace had gone out to hunt on Wednesday and first word that anything was wrong came when a hunter contacted police and informed them that a boat was going around in circles in the cove. By this time it was too dark to do anything and the following morning brothers of the stricken man went out about five o’clock and found his body slumped over the stern of the boat with his hand still on the control of the motor.
The body was brought to Little Current where Dr. J. F. Bailey pronounced the man dead. There will not be an inquest as police stated death was due to a hear attack.
Lovelace is survived by his wife, the former Annie Armstrong, four sons and one daughter.

LINDA LUNYS
Linda Lunys passed away peacefully at home on August 3, 2007, surrounded by her loving family. Linda battled cancer courageously for the last year. Beloved wife of George, sister-in-law to Rick, Tracey and Bob. Loving Aunt to Ashlyn, Kailey, Trevor and Devin. Sister of Victor (Cathie). Godmother to Nicole. Linda was a champion of the underdog and disadvantaged. She despised cruelty to those unable to defend themselves. She loved nature and bonded very deeply with her pets, which included chickens, steers, horses, cats and dogs. Linda had many interests including crafts, painting, curling and spending George's money. Linda was an avid nature lover and showed great kindness and respect to all life, big and small (with a special affinity for kitty cats). She enjoyed life to the fullest, quick with a smile and an abundant sense of humour, ready to laugh at herself and life in general. She radiated a gentle kindness and warmth, a compliment ever-ready on her lips. Linda will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. Although her external light has been extinguished, her internal light and soul will forever shine in our hearts. Cremation has already occurred. A celebration of Linda's life is planned for the fall with the date to be announced. Arrangements in care of Island Funeral Home.

East Campbell
The death of Mr. Peter Luther sr., of Grimesthorpe which took place on Wednesday last was quite unexpected although he was in his 86th year. He was remarkable smart until Sunday last when he took a stroke and fell from his chair and although all was done that medical aid could do he passed away on Wednesday. Mr. Luther with his family came here 35 years ago and settled on the farm owned by Andrew McDonald. His partner in life died about 22 years ago. He afterwards sold the farm and moved to the tenth con. where he lived ever since. He was quiet in his manner and perhaps not very widely known but was respected by all. He leaves to mourn his loss five sons and two daughters and many friends. The services were conducted by Mr. Munro assisted by Revs. Turnbull and Fry, interment in Grimesthorpe Cemetery. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of the community.
