Death of Allan Reid
It is with regret that we announce the death of Allan Reid which occurred on Monday morning Feb. 3rd at the home of his youngest daughter Mrs. R. Parkins of Grace, Sask.
The deceased was in his ninetieth year having been born at Colousa, Scotland in the year 1829. He came to Canada with his wife and family in 1850 settling first in Bruce county removing later to the Manitoulin 1879 where he resided for thirty-eight years being one of the first settlers on the Island. He was one of the original members of the Spring Bay Baptist Church where he commanded the esteem of all who knew him. He left the Island in 1916 to take up residence with his daughters at Grace, Sask. where he has lived almost continuously ever since.
The funeral was conducted from the home of Mrs. Parkins to the Mitchelton cemetery where interment took place. A special memorial service was held on Sunday afternoon at the Grace School House, large numbers gathering on each occasion to pay their respects to the departed. The Rev. Helier Pepin officiated at each of the services, preaching sermons from Psalm 116-15 and Tim. 11:4-8
The six senior grandsons acted as pall bearers. The deceased leaves three sons, five daughters and about one hundred and fifty-three grandchildren and great grandchildren to mourn his loss.
It is the purpose of his friends to write and publish the story of his lie and if there are any friends who know of incidents in his life that might be useful in such a publication the Rev. H. Pepin of Grace, Sask. Would esteem it a favour if they would communicate such to him, he having been entrusted with the task of producing the work.

ALLY REYNOLDS
REYNOLDS--At Manitowaning, on Friday evening, Feb. 20th, Ally, daughter of Jno. Reynolds in the 11th year of her age. Death is a grim monster at any time, but when, as in this case, the only child is removed from the paternal fireside then indeed does he become a very king of terrors. Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds have the sincere sympathy of the whole neighborhood in their terrible affliction, an affliction to which expressions of sympathy offered but meager relief.
Manitoulin Expositor, February 28, 1885
The following letter appeared in the Manitoulin Expositor following the death on February 20th of young Ally Reynolds.
Letter to Mr. and Mrs. John Reynolds--
Dear Brother and Kind Friend;--Whereas it hath pleased Almighty God to remove by death, your only and well beloved child thereby causing you to feel that your loss is irreparable and your load of sorrow more than you can well bear, we the members of the Independent Order of Foresters realize that we cannot understand the greatness of your loss, yet to a great extent your sorrow is our sorrow and the tender cord of sympathy has been touched in each. We therefore take this opportunity of expressing to you our heartfelt sympathies in this your sad bereavement. We would endeavour to speak words of comfort and hope to buoy you up and enable you to fight the battle of life. Great as you loss may be to you, you may draw comfort from the fact that Allie is better in heaven; she is more bright and happy than you could possibly make her on earth; you still have the memory of her loving, trustful and innocent ways which will be doubly precious to you now; you also have the knowledge that it is your privelege to meet her in that land where pain and sorrow cannot enter and where there shall be no more parting.
Trusting that you may be enabled to bear this affliction with patience.
We are, truly yours in L.B & C.
G. McDonald
Theo Kirkey
W. A. McLeod
Signed in behalf of court Algoma No. 140, of the Independent Order of Foresters.
