Obituary
The messenger of death has paid a good many visits to Mindemoya within a comparatively short time. Recently the call came to Mr. John Tann.
Mr. Tann was born in the County of Ontario, Ontario, in 1861. He came to Manitoulin Island with his parents about forty-nine years ago, his father’s name being James Tann, and his mother’s maiden name, Kezia Mann. In 906 he was married to Miss Mamie Hannah of Bidwell, and lived for some time in Manitowaning, afterwards removing to Mindemoya, where he built a brick house, one of the first structures of its kind within many miles. This he sold upon purchasing the Sibbald homestead adjoining, on which he resided until the time of his death.
In the latter part of October he went to the Toronto General Hospital where he was operated upon for cancer. The operation was successful and he came home to spend Christmas with his family, and was then apparently on a fair way to recovery although quite weak.
Two days after Christmas he became worse, other complications set in and he passed away on the 2nd of January, leaving to mourn his loss, his widow, one daughter, Eleanor, and one son Grenville, both residing at home. Also one brother William of Mindemoya and a sister, Mrs. Chas. Butler of Everett, state of Washington, two sisters and one brother having gone before. Mr. Tann was a carpenter and a skilled workman. He was a kind and loving husband and father, and a good neighbor. He possessed a cheerful and hearty disposition and will be missed in the community.
Death has invaded the home of the Tann Family frequently within a few years. It is not very long since Mr. Tann’s parents were removed, and he lost his brother Thomas quite recently. The sorrowing family and relatives have the sympathy of the community in the hour of their bereavement.
The funeral took place on Jan. 4th 1924. Rev. Bradford who conducted the service in the church spoke from St. John 14:2, a large number being present; and the remains were laid to rest in Mindemoya cemetery The pall bearers were Messrs. L. Tann, Thos. Vanhorn, W. Marshall, A.J. Wagg, J. Love and W. Haer, and the undertaker, Mr. J. Caddel.
During his illness Mr. Tann suffered much. He bore his trial and great patience and passed away trusting in his Lord and Master.

Obituary
The Late Thos. Tann
The death of one of the most prominent residents of the Township of Sandfield was recently announced in The Recorder, in the person of Mr. Thos. Tann.
Mr. Tann was born in the Township of Scott, County of Ontario, Ont., in the year 1860. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Tann, his mother’s maiden name being Kezia Mann. The family left the old home township in 189, and settled on the homestead near Mindemoya, Twp. of Carnarvon. In 1895 Mr. Tann married Miss Annie Moody of Big Lake. They located on the farm in Sandfield where Mr. Tann died. There they built up a commodious and comfortable home. Mr. Tann was for a number of years a member of the Sandfield council, and had a good general knowledge of municipal matters, had good ability, and was painstaking and honest in the discharge of his duties.
He was a good neighbour and a kind husband and father; and it was a pleasure to call at his home in passing and have a cat with him. He was kind and hospitable in his manner and possessed a good measure of public spirit.
Mr. Tann had been suffering from paralysis for some time. During the last fall he failed more rapidly and although not suffering pain, became weaker, the end being hastened by apoplexy.
He is survived by his widow, one son, Lawrence, with his wife and daughter, Irene, also two brothers, John of Mindemoya and William who resided with deceased, and two sisters, Mrs. Butler of Everett, Washington, U.S., and Mrs. Spain, Alpena, Mich., U.S. all of whom have the sympathy of the community.
Rev. Mr. Bradford of Mindemoya conducted the funeral services and took his text from 1 Cor. 15:35 and following verses.
The pall bearers were Thos. VanHorne, L. Spry, Jas. Hutchinson, J. Cooper, J. King and Geo. Campbell and the undertaker was J. Caddel.
The funeral procession was large from Mindemoya to the cemetery.
Much sympathy had been felt during the summer for Mr. Tann in his p…..tially helpless condition.
