MARGUERITE WABANOSSE (NEE MISSIANAKWAT)
In loving memory of Marguerite Wabanosse (nee Missianakwat) November 28, 1927 - August 30, 2008 who passed away suddenly in her home at the age of 80. Loving wife of the late Harry Wabanosse. Loving mother of Roberta (Larry) of Sudbury and the late Eugene Wabanosse. Dear daughter of William and Annie (nee Waindebence-Barefoot) Mizonaquet. Cherished grandmother of Connie Wabanosse (Darin), and Sheri Wabanosse (Godfrey). Will always be lovingly remembered by great grandchildren Lorena, Eugene, Steven, Daniel, and Mariah and one great great grandchild, Joel. Godmother to Jerome Kanaswe and Freda Lewis. Marguerite was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother who always put her family first. She loved her church duties and was faithful to the end in planning her readers for every Sunday mass. She enjoyed being a homemaker and making her home comfortable for family and friends. For most of her life she mowed her own lawn and kept up with her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. The smell of homemade bread and baking can always be found coming from her home. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and weaving on her loom. One thing we can say about Marguerite, she was a proud and independent woman who was very strong in her faith. Resting at Holy Cross Mission Wikwemikong, friends called after 2pm Monday. Funeral Mass in Holy Cross Mission Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008 at 11:00 am. Father Doug McCarthy officiating. In loving memory of Arnold Wabegijig, 71 years, who passed away peacefully at the Ottawa General Hospital on Sunday, June 28, 2009. Husband of Barbara (Boyer) Wabegijig of Mississauga First Nations. Loving father of Arnold Gerrard, Frederick Louis, and Vera. Dear grandfather of Cheyenne, Jake, Storm and Grace. Loving son of Patrick Joseph and Cecile (Naponse) Wabegijig both predeceased. Dear brother of Marvin Michael, Patrick, Carol Nadjiwon (husband Rolland), Sandra (partner Richard Cywink) and Garry, Russell and Douglas all predeceased. Sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and great-great-grandnephews. Arnold loved photography, visiting historical sites, casinos and his coffee and chats at Sault Ste. Marie Mall. His kindness, smiling face and humour will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He will never be forgotten and will remain in our hears forever. Arnold was a band member of the Wikwemikong Unceded Indian Band, Odawa and Ojibway Nations. Resting at St. Ignatius Church in Buzwah (Manitoulin Island). Funeral Mass was at Holy Cross Mission in Wikwemikong on Friday, July 3, 2009 at 11 am. Interment at the Wikwemikong Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home, Sudbury. CECILE WABEGIJIG
In memory of Cecile Wabegijig who died peacefully at the Brantford General Hospital on Tuesday, December 5, 2006 in her 87th year. Beloved wife of the late Patrick Joseph Wabegijig (1975). Loving mother of Arnold, the late Russell, Mervin, the late Gary, Carol, Patrick Jr., the late Douglas, and Sandra. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and great-great-great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her sisters Rose and Madeleine, and her brothers Theodore and Joseph. She will also be sadly missed by many other family and friends. Cecile and Patrick Sr. were founders of the Sudbury Friendship Center (formerly known as the Nickle Belt Indian Club) and Cecile was a member of the Wigwamen Terrace Seniors Club in Toronto. She was an active member of the Catholic Native Mission in Toronto and the Catholic Womens League. "She was a loving, dedicated and caring mother." Friends were received at the Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, 88 Brant Avenue on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A prayer service was held on Friday at 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Basils Parish on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with Father Don Sanvido officiating. Interment St. Josephs Cemetery. Donations to the Wigwamen Terrace Seniors Club - 14 Spadina Road, Toronto, M5R 3M4 would be appreciated. Beloved wife of Francis "Frank" Wabegijig, predeceased 1991. MAY WABEGIJIK
In loving memory of May Wabegijik, December 18, 1911 - November 23, 2006. May Wabegijik, a resident of Sheshegwaning, died at the Mindemoya Hospital on Thursday, November 23 at the age of 94 years. May had been a resident of the Manitoulin Lodge since this past August. She was born at Sheshegwaning. May had a variety of interests, including knitting, baking and cooking. May will be remembered as having a great sense of humour. She had a love for her family that will be cherished by each and every one of them. She will be sadly missed, but many memories will be remembered and cherished. May was predeceased by her husband Levi Wabegijik. Loving and loved mother of George Wabegijik (predeceased), Louie Wabegijik (predeceased), Charlie Wabegijik, (Marjorie), Ernest Wabegijik (Brenda), Violet Malley (Wabegijik), Isobel Wabegijik (predeceased), Matthew Wabegijik (predeceased), Audrey Wabegijik (predeceased) all of Sheshegwaning. BRENT ELLIOT WADE
WADE, Brent Elliot, April 12, 1977-November 9, 1999 a resident of Guelph (formerly of Sheguiandah) died suddenly on Tuesday, November 9, 1999 at the age of 22 years. He was born in Little Current, the son of Joanne Wade of Sheguiandah and George Wade of Espanola.
Brent worked as a mechanic in Guelph. Remembered by his special new friend Emily of Huntsville.
Survived by his parents and this two sisters Chrissy Sprack and friend Matthew of Sheguiandah and Laura Wade and friend Jason of London, special brother-in-law of Scott Sprack of Sudbury. Cherished and loving grandson of Gerald and Audrey Elliot of Little Current. Also survived by grandmother Gertrude Fitzpatrick of California and the late Lorne Wade. Loving nephew of Bonnie, Larry and Audrey, Marilyn and Roger, Wayne and the late Gloria. Also survived by his best friend and cousin Mark, and cousins Kurtis, Drew, Jason, Brian and Amanda. Sadly missed by Cole and his mother Stacey. Special friend of auntie Jen and Dan, Sheri and Ryan, and Joanne's special friend Tom.
Funeral service was held on Saturday, November 13 at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Little Current with Reverends Richard and Linda White officiating. Interment in Elmview Cemetery in Sheguiandah. Arrangements entrusted to Manitowaning Chapel Funeral Home, Manitowaning.

DEATH OF MRS. WAGG, SR
Christmas season which brings joy to so many homes brought sorrow to the home of Mr. Francis Wagg, Sr. of Mindemoya. Three days previously Mrs. Wagg passed "that bourne where no traveller ever returns".
Mrs. Wagg although in a delicate state of health showed no symptoms of illness beyond usual, until about two weeks previous to her death.
She was born in Lincoln, England in 1855. Previous to coming to Manitoulin she had lived in St. Catherines for many years. She came to that locality we understand between thirty-five and forty years ago and but few near relatives in Canada.
She came to Mindemoya in August 1914 a few days after the Great War began and passed away about six weeks after peace was declared.
During her residence here she won the good will and friendship of many and was possessed of a sunny disposition which manifested itself in her countenance.
The funeral was largely attended considering the severity of the weather. Mrs. Wagg's remains were laid at rest in Mindemoya cemetery. Her aged and sorrowing husband has the sympathy of the community.

Injuries in Holland - 1945
Douglas Maxwell Wagg, husband of Mrs. Nellie Wagg and son of Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Wagg, all of Mindemoya, was officially reported killed in Holland July 6. Doug Wagg was an expert in the examination and disarming of shells and explosive missiles and had been assigned to the clearing of parts of Holland from buried mines and the report says that he died as the result of the accidental explosion of a mine. Fuller details have as yet not been forthcoming.
The deceased was popularly known and widely esteemed throughout the
whole Manitoulin from his partnership with his father in the business
organization of A.J. Wagg and Son, Mindemoya. In this business he had
worked prior to enlistment for over ten years and had plans for returning to it this summer. Indeed in a latter postmarked the day of death he referred to his desire to get back as soon as possible to work with his family and to meet the many American friends he had made through the years.
Doug Wagg joined the Army in September three years ago, but it was not
until July 1944 that he was sent overseas, the interim being spent in his training as an Ammunition Inspector at Toronto, Calgary, Petawawa and Barriefield near Kingston. Once overseas he was but a few weeks for a final brushing up course in England before he reached the front and followed the Army from Belgium, through Holland right into Germany itself. But with the cessation of hostilities his course turned back to Holland and it was there that he met his death while ridding certain areas which had been occupied by the Germans from bombs and mines which had made the lives of the civilian population so threatened.
The late Mr. Wagg was born in Fort William, May 20, 1910 moving to
Mindemoya only two months later. He attended the Public and Continuation
Schools at Mindemoya and then went on to attend for a year and a half the Dairy School conducted by the Ontario Agricultural College at Guelph. Since that time he had helped to build up and he had become trained by the present business in his home town.
Just prior to going overseas a year ago this month he married Miss
Nellie Hunter of Tehkummah. Along with his widow he leaves to mourn by his untimely passing his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Wagg, Mindemoya; four sisters Mrs. D.E. Becks (Madeline), Toronto; Mrs. Dufferin Brown (Marion), Mindemoya; Miss Gladys Wagg.

MARION IRENE WAGG
Wagg - Marion Irene Wagg, aged 76 years, of Mindemoya, Ontario died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, January 23, 1980. The funeral service was held in Mindemoya United Church on Saturday, January 26, 1980 and interment took place in Mindemoya Cemetery.
Irene was born in Robinson Township in 1904, the eldest child of Roy and Winnifred Smyth. Her schooling was received in Silver Water Public School and in Gore Bay High School. After working in Gore Bay and Silver Water, she moved to Mindemoya where she worked in Wagg's Creamery. She married Lloyd Wagg in 1930 and had a family of three sons and one daughter. Irene and Lloyd became active in the community and especially in the United Church where Irene played the organ for a number of years. She was a member of the Mindemoya Horticultural Society and was its secretary until it folded. In more recent years she remained active, knitting for bazaars and creating and quilting numerous quilts.
She was predeceased by Lloyd in 1947 and is survived by her sons Bruce, Max and Jim and her daughter Marjorie, three sisters Doris, Addie and Aimie, three brothers Harry, Walter and Ford and 13 grandchildren. She will be missed by all.

WALTER LLOYD WAGG
Walter Lloyd Wagg, son of Ray and Doris Wagg of Mindemoya, brother of Gerald of Burlington and Winnifred-Mrs. Wm. Whynacht of Nova Scotia was killed instantly on August 25, 1973 at the age of 24 years.
He held the position of “Service Adviser” at J. Holland Motors in Burlington at the time of death.
The funeral was in the United Church in Mindemoya with Rev. MacQueen officiating.
The pallbearers were Howard Elliott Jr., Harold McCutcheon, Ronnie Nevilles of Mindemoya, Jim Wagg, Jim Cowan and Dennis Maguire of Burlington.
Many relatives and friends from the Burlington, Hamilton area attended the funeral including his fiancé Beverley Boyd. Also relatives from North Bay, Timmins, Port Colborne, Midland and other points.

In loving memory of Margaret Wahsquonaikezhik who passed away peacefully at Wikwemikong Nursing Home on Saturday, November 27, 2004 at the age of 84 years. Born September 17, 1921 to Theresa Corbiere and Edward Wassegijig (both predeceased). Married John Wahsquonaikezhik
(predeceased September 25, 1976).
Margaret was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, making braided rugs, birch bark canoes, picking sweet grass, making hot pads, picking wild berries and preserving them, and going out to pick herbs for medicine. She loved going to church. Margaret raised her own 15 children plus two adopted as well as many other nieces and nephews and grandchildren. Survived by oldest daughter Theresa Haswood (husband Tully) of Rock Springs, New Mexico, Christina Sinobert (husband Cecil of Sagamok, Bernadette Recollet (husband Stanley) of Wikwemikong, Josette Wahsquonaikezhik (husband Brad) of Winnipeg, Jean Debassige (friend Andy) of Sudbury, Sons Ernest (wife Annette) of Keshena, Wisconsin, Gabriel (wife Laurie) of Neopit, Wisconsin, Francis (wife Beverly) of Sault Ste. Norman was suddenly called to his spiritual journey on Monday, October 27, 2008 at his home in St. Catharines, Ontario. Predeceased by father Gabriel, brother Gary, and sister Kathleen. Survived by mother Clara, brother Gordon (Pearl), and sisters Sharon and Marlene (Don); all of Sheguiandah. Sadly missed by his children Terri (Dan) Pfeiffer, Matthew (Tonya), Bryan, Kimberly, Norman Junior; all of St. Catharines. In loving memory of Norma Helen Wajda who passed away at the Manitoulin Health Centre, Mindemoya, on Monday May 10, 2004 at the age of 73 years.
She was born in Campbell Township, daughter of the late Milton and Kate
(Bowser) Buie. Norma had a variety of interests which included knitting, crocheting and hairdressing. Norma was predeceased by husband Joseph Wajda. She is survived by best friend Jack Hilton. Loved mother of Gloria and husband Donald Smith of Welland; proud grandmother of Shaun and Liana Smith if Mississauga and Tracey and Darrell Krysa of Welland and great grandchildren Geoffrey and Jordan Smith and Colin and Gregory Krysa. Dear sister of Wendell and his wife Nan Buie of Perivale Rd. and Bill Buie (wife Nell predeceased) of Sudbury. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by son Terry and sister Ruth.

Death of Aaron Walker Sr.
Mr. Aaron Walker passed away on Thursday morning Feb. 5th, 1914 at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. J. N. Waite, after several weeks illness. The deceased was 83 years old and had good health till the last year or two.
The funeral took place from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. J. N. Waite on Friday afternoon. Rev. John A. McDonald officiating.
The late Mr. Walker was born in Clougher Ireland, and came to this country when a boy. He was one of the pioneer settlers of Gordon Township. He leaves four sons and six daughters to mourn his death, viz; Mrs. Kenneday, Toronto; Mrs. Hugh Brown Ice Lake; Mrs. J. N. Waite, Gore Bay; Mrs. Burden, Chicago; Mrs. John Donaldson, Seattle; Mrs. M. Irmen, Minneapolis; Aaron, of Gore Bay; Herb, of British Columbia; Robert, of Los Angeles and William in the Western States.

Mrs. Eliza Kennedy, of 495 Concord Ave., who passed away, Monday, October 17th, was the eldest daughter of Arron and Mary Walker. She was born near Thornbury in 1861, coming when eight years of age to the Manitoulin Island. Her first husband was George Young, of Gore Bay. In 1910 the family moved to Toronto and shortly afterwards Mr. Young died. Some years later she married T. L. Kennedy of the Dominion School of Telegraphy who also predeceased her. Surviving are two children to the first husband, Mrs. A. E. Lunau (Florence) wife of Rev. Austin Lunau and Will R. Young of the International Business Machines, and two grandsons, George and Robert Young. Mrs. Kennedy was a member of Centennial United Church, Toronto. Internment took place in
Parklawn Cemetery, Wednesday 19th.

Rhea Walker, a resident of Scotland Road, Gore Bay, died at the
Mindemoya Hospital on Thursday, November 8, 2001, at the age of 68
years. She was born in Hamilton, daughter of the late Thomas and Vera
(Kellestine) Baker.
Rhea loved to read and in so doing, learning all the time. She also
enjoyed crosswords and watching figure skating. Before her stroke,
she also was a wonderful piano player, and liked to sing. She was a
loving and caring, wife, mother and grandmother and will be sadly
missed by all.
Dearly loved wife of Ronald Walker of Gore Bay. Loving and loved
mother of Christine Walker (husband Charles Crack) of Gore Bay,
Thomas Walker and his fiancée Dianne of Merritt, BC, and Allen and
his wife Sandra Walker of Beaverton. Proud grandmother of Kelly-Lynn,
Kerry and his wife Marie-France, Kevin, Karalee, Mary and Laura,
great granddaughter Harley, step grandchildren Kenneth, Laurie,

Mrs. Fanny Ward
Fanny Ward, a former resident of Manitoulin Island, passed away at Espanola Tuesday August 22 1967 at the age of 86 years 6 months. Mrs. Ward, the former Fanny Bowser, was born in Vespra Township, Simcoe County, February 19, 1881, daughter of Matthew and Frances Bowser. Mrs. Ward moved to Gordon Township at 6 years of age attending No. 2 School Gordon Township. She lived in Gordon until her marriage to the late Charles Henry Ward, when she moved to his farm in Allen Township. Mrs. Ward will be remembered for her work in Gore Bay United church and as an honorary member of Wawa United Church Women's Auxillary.
Mrs. Ward is mourned by daughters Mrs. Nelson Fogal (Fanny) of Gore Bay, Mrs. Ernest Witty (Sadie) of Wawa and sons Matthew and Charlie of Wawa. Also survived by sisters Mrs. Neil Shields of Espanola, Mrs. Jack McCormick, Mrs. Henry Sloss and Mrs. Lib Wright, all of Manitoulin, together with 13 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
The funeral was held at Gore Bay at 2 p.m. Friday, August 25, 1967 with Rev. Gimmel of Little Current officiating. Interment was in Gordon Cemetery with pallbearers Alex Brown, Jim Brown, George Guy, Jim McCannell, Laughie McCannell and Grant Turner.

Mrs. Stacey Warner
The west end of the Island was shocked and deeply grieved in the
passing of Mrs. Stacey Warner, (nee Edna Ainslie). A life long resident
of Elizabeth Bay, Mrs. Warner was widely known, and loved for her
kindliness and optimistic spirit. She was one of those people whom “the
clouds cannot shadow.” The sympathy of her home community goes out to the husband and baby daughter left to mourn her loss.
Following a family service in Sudbury, a public service was held in
Lyons Memorial United Church, Gore Bay, and interment was made in Gordon Cemetery. The service was under the direction of the late Mrs. Warner’s pastor, Mr. O.D. Cadotte of Silver Water, assisted by the Pastor of Lyons Memorial Church. The pallbearers were Messrs. Arthur Long, Ralph Ainslie, Wm. Ainslie, Arden Greenman, Russell Blackburn and Lawrence Clarke. Other surviving relatives are James Ainslie and Marguerite; father and sister, Elizabeth Bay and two brothers Mathew and Harold, of Goderich and Detroit respectively.

James Warren Loses Life in Flying Accident
James Warren, sergeant air observer with the R.C.A.F. in England, was killed in a flying accident on Tuesday of last week according to a telegram received by his wife on Friday.
The telegram read: "Regret to inform you that your husband, Sergeant
Warren, killed in flying accident, 17 June. Aircraft of which he was an
observer, crashed at Woodend Farm, Shoute, Devonshire. Funeral expected to take place June 20."
Jimmie Warren was a native son of Carleton Place, born there in 1913, a son of Mrs. Wm. J. Warren and the late Mr. Warren. Following his education in the public and high schools here he qualified himself for the teaching profession and for some years taught at Middleville and James school, also at Little Current. Two years ago he joined the teaching staff of the public schools here from which he was given leave of absence at the time of his enlistment.
As a student at school he took a prominent part in football and hockey,
where he was considered one of the outstanding players.
He enlisted in the Air Force in 1940, and shortly after receiving his wings in February of this year he was married to Orrie West, of Almonte, and two months later went overseas to complete his training.
Surviving besides his wife are: his mother, two brothers, Jack Warren of the R.C.A.F., Montreal, William, at home, also a sister, Miss Isobel, at home.

Obituary
Death came very suddenly to a home in the Meldrum Bay neighbourhood, early in the morning of January 16th, when Alfred Wasnidge was called to away from the scenes of time. Mr. Wasnidge was born in England 67 years ago. He came to Canada with his parents at the age of eleven years, and lived in Barrie for several years.
He removed to Manitoulin Island with his parents in 1900. Shortly after coming to Manitoulin he married Mrs. Harriet Sullivan.
He is survived by his widow and one daughter, Mrs. Russell Van Every who with the other relatives share the deep sympathy of the community.
Mr. Wasnidge was a kind and loving husband and father; and his death removes a good neighbor, who has been a familiar figure in the locality.
The funeral service was conducted at the house by Rev. Wm. Munro and interment took place at Meldrum Bay cemetery.

Mrs. Harriet Wasnidge
In the passing of Mrs. Harriet Wasnidge the Western part of the Island mourns another of its pioneers. The late Mrs. Wasnidge was born in Flesherton (Harriet Linley) October 31st, 1857. The late Mrs. Wasnidge was first married to George Sullivan and the young couple made their home on Cockburn Island and, on the death of her first husband, she was married to Alfred Wasnidge and moved to a farm in Dawson Township, where she resided until Mr. Wasnidge's death some twenty years ago, since when she has made her home with a daughter of the first marriage, Mrs. Louis Kemp, at Silver Water. The late Mrs. Wasnidge has been failing health for several years, and the end came on August 19th, 1943, while at the home of another daughter, Mrs. Russell Vanevery of Dawson Township.
There is left to mourn the passing of the late Mrs. Wasnidge; a sister Mrs. Plant, of Aneroid, Sask; one son, John Sullivan, a patient in Westminster Hospital, London Ontario, since the last war; and three daughters Florence of Niagara Falls, Ontario; Ethel (Mrs. Louis Kemp), Silver Water: and Elizabeth (Mrs. Russell Vanevery) of Meldrum Bay.
The funeral service was held in St. Andrew's United Church, Meldrum Bay, the pastor of the church officiating. The pallbearers were all onetime neighbors of the deceased: Messrs. Harry Falls, Charles McDonald, Char les Joyce, George Bromley, Joseph Millman and John Vanevery.

MARGUERITE GEORGINA (FOX) WASSEGIJIG
Born March 22, 1926, passed away March 3, 2002.
Better known to all as Margaret, she entered this world the daughter
of John Fox and Josephine (Osawabine) Fox. She spent the first year
of her life "roughing it" at Collin's Inlet where her father made a
living for them working in the pulpwood industry. The eldest of many
children, she is survived by many brothers and sisters: Paul (wife
Margaret deceased); Dominic (wife Agnes); Thomas (wife Angeline);
Mary; Ida (deceased); Lloyd (friend Helen); Edward (wife Dorothy).
On May 1st, 1945 she married Lawrence Wassegijig (died 1976). They
are survived by their children; Frank (friend Emily); Helen; Dorothy
Kennedy (husband David); Colleen Migwans (husband Clyde). Marguerite
is predeceased by two sons: Wilfred Robert Fox (died 1945), and
Harvey Alfred (died 1985). Grandchildren Sara, Kara and David Jr.
brought her many years of joy and they will miss her.
She worked hard for family most of her life, and this made her body
strong enough to resist the health challenges that faced her later in
life. She battled surgeries for cataracts, breast cancer, and heart
disease with grace, but her body finally succumbed to the effects of
Parkinson's and liver disease. Her extended family in this latter
stage of her life included her doctors and the staff at the
Wikwemikong Nursing Home.
She travels now to her next life, where she will join those loved
ones who have gone before her. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the
Island Funeral Home. Visitation was held on Tuesday March 5, 2002 at
the Buzwah Church. Funeral Mass took place at the Holy Cross Mission
Church on Thursday, March 7 with Father Bert Foliot as celebrant.

In loving memory of Mary Margaret Wassegijig, June 15, 1940 - February 4,
2005. Mary Wassegijig of Hamilton died at her residence on Friday, February
4, 2005 at the age of 64 years. She was born on M'Chigeeng First Nation,
Manitoulin Island, daughter of the late Angus and Elizabeth (Panimick)
Wassegijig.
Mary enjoyed her grandchildren and taught them her love of
music. She sang, played guitar, piano and harmonica and will always be
remembered for her music.
Mary is lovingly remembered by her children,
Michael (Annie) of M'Chigeeng, Darlene (Keith Madill) of Hamilton, John (and
friend Paula), Karen (Sanders), Cecille all of Niagara Falls and Calvin of
Hamilton. Loved grandma of 17 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Dear
sister of Genevieve Wassegijig of M'Chigeeng and Bertha Rogers of Espanola.

VALENTINE (TINE) WASSEGIJIG
In loving memory of Valentine (Tine) Wassegijig, February 19, 1934 to September 27, 2000 at the age of 66 years on Wednesday evening, September 27, 2000 at the Manitoulin Health Centre, Little Current.
Tine worked hard to make sure his family was well taken care of. While he took care of his family he taught many fellow friends to build houses, as he committed himself for many years to the Wikwemikong Band Housing. Now he rests and leaves us many wonderful memories.
Beloved husband of the late Alice Roy of Wikwemikong. Loving father of Betty Bell (Harvey), Ronnie Rivers (Violet) and Kenny Roy. Dear grandfather of Calvin (predeceased), Cynthia, Harvey Jr. Nathan, Brittany, Eliza, Joe, Roslyn, Lucy, Rae Ann, Andre and Harmony. Great grandchildren Michael, Skylar, Ocean, Wyatt and Silas. Dear brother of Victoria and the late Allan (Echo). Peggy, Bob, Lawrence, and David. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Dear son of Ralph and Catherine Wassegijig both predeceased.
Friends were received at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Buzwah on Friday, September 29, 2000. The Funeral mass was held at Holy Cross Mission, Wikwemikong on Monday, October 2, 2000. Interment followed in Buzwah Cemetery.

Dear brother of Ivan Kaboni (wife Cathy, predeceased), David Wakegijig, Stella Gray, Elizabeth (Mamaachim) Peltier all of Wikwemikong and Betty Gray and husband Wilford of Sarnia, the late Boniface George and wife Margaret, the late David George and wife Lucy. Dear nephew of Stella Osawamick and Ida Dokum.

James Watson Dead
Died, at his late residence at Manitowaning, on Sunday, August 12th, 1917, James A. Watson, aged 75 years.
The late Mr. Watson had been in poor health for sometime, and recently had been confined to his bed. He was born in Perth County and came to the Manitoulin about 22 years ago, making his home at Manitowaning where he resided till his death. In religion he was a Methodist and in politics a conservative. Besides his bereaved widow he is survived by one son, David; and six daughters: Mrs. Chubb, Staffa, Ont., Mrs. Wood, Winnipeg, Mrs. Jefferson, Arcova Sask., Mrs. Shields, Gore Bay, Mrs. Cochrane, Toronto, and Mrs. Wallace, Manitowaning.
The funeral service was held at his late residence on Tuesday at two o’clock, the services being conducted by the two local clergy and the sermon was preached by an old friend of the deceased, Rev. Wm. Munro, of Providence Bay. Among the visitors from other parts of the District, we noticed the following: Messrs. B. H. Turner, J. B. Wallace, Geo. Henning, C. M. Henning, Thompson, W. D. Ritchie and Mrs. Ritchie, of Little Current: Messrs. J. Russell McGregor, A. E. Graham, J. H. Biehl, Sheriff Fell and F. W. Major, of Gore Bay; Mr. W. L. Trotter, Sheguiandah.

JAMES WATSON
The community was shocked to hear of the sudden death of James Watson who was found dead in bed early Friday morning to a heart attack. The deceased had been working at C. Baxter's during the summer and apparently was able to be around every day working. The funeral was held from R.O. Watson's on Sunday at 3 o'clock when a large crowd gathered to pay last respects to the deceased.
Rev. Renshaw conducted the funeral service.

WATSON-Robert Watson beloved husband of the late Margaret Mitchell, died at St. Joseph's Hospital, Little Current on Thursday, July 11, 1974 in his 90th year. He rested at Fairview United Church, Tehkummah. Funeral service was from there on Saturday, July 13, at 1:00 pm. Interment took place at Hilly Grove Cemetery.

SARAH JANE WATSON (NEE IRVINE)
In loving memory of Sarah Jane Watson (nee Irvine) Age 67 years.
It is with heavy hearts her family announces her death on Saturday, the 18th of December, 2004 at the West Nipissing General Hospital. Sarah Jane had been suffering with cancer for the past year. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory, her beloved husband and best friend of forty five years, Donald McDowell Watson and their children Donald Irvine Watson (wife Helene), Donna Kathleen Foster (husband Bob), Gail Montrie (husband Bill) and chosen daughter Jackie Burtnyk (fiancee Rick Smith). She was predeceased by her oldest son Alexander McDowell Watson (Age 7 years) in 1966 and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by her brothers Bobby and Billy Irvine both of England. Sister Joan Irwin of Northern Ireland and sister Sandra McIlwraith of Scotland. Also survived by her grandhchildren Meagan, Samantha and Steven Watson, Kathleen and Christine Foster, Katlyn Montrie and Angela and Tanya Burtnyk.
Sarah Jane will be best remembered for her wonderful singing, her quick smile and her sense of humour. She loved to spend time at her camp on Manitoulin Island and especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. "Mamma Jane" to many of her children's friends, her hugs and kisses will be missed. She served in the British Army and was a life member of Branch 225 of the Royal Canadian Legion. She was the Zone Poppy Chairperson and an avid supporter of our veterans.

service was held at the Royal Canadian Legion upstairs hall in Sturgeon
Falls on Wednesday the 22nd of December, 2004 at 3 pm. Donations may be
made to the Northeastern Regional Cancer Centre in Sudbury.

Mrs. J. A. Watson
There passed away on Sept. 22th, 1920, one of the most highly respected citizens of Manitowaning. In the death of Mrs. Jas. A. Watson, whose maiden name was Theresa Howland.
Mrs. Watson was born in Arkona, the County of Lambton, in the year 1850 and was one of a family of seven her parents being Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Howland.
She was a member of a highly intellectual family, was well read and could converse intelligently on many subjects. Her life was that of a true Christian, being kind, unostentatious and thoughtful in her manner.
She was married thirty three years ago in Mitchell, Ont., to the late Jas. A. Watson, and was a devoted wife and loving mother. Mr. Watson predeceased her three years ago.
One brother and three sisters survive, namely, Rev. Thos. Howland in Washington State, Mrs. Heman (sic) Hurlburt in Saskatchewan, Mrs. William Beatty in Toronto, and Mrs. Alex. Johnson in Forrest. One brother, Dr. Francis Howland, died in Huntsville, Ont. three years ago.
Mrs. Watson had only one child, Mrs. G. Wallace of Manitowaning. She leaves also seven step-children, including Mr. D. Watson of Manitowaning, Mrs. Shields of Gore Bay, Mrs. (Rev.) Cochrane of Sudbury and some others.
The relatives have the sympathy of the community.
The remains were laid to rest beside those of her late husband, in Hilly Grove cemetery, on Monday, Sept. 12.

Suddenly, as a result of a motorcycle accident on Sunday July 30, 2006 John Harold Watts was taken from us in his 50th year.
Greatly loved son of Jim and Trudy Watts of Tillsonburg. Much loved father of Erin Guindon, Courtenay, B.C. (Susan Guindon); Dylan and Nicholas Watts of Osgoode, Ontario (Roberta Webster). Sadly missed as a friend and brother by Bob Watts and his wife Nancy, Calgary, Alberta; Suzanne Watts and her husband Les of Dawson Creek, BC. Special uncle of Alec, Jillan and Deanne Watts and Jacob and Madeline Rose Whyte. John will always be remembered for his smile and sense of humour by family and friends.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Dwayne D. Budgell Funeral Home, 1105 Rest Acres Road, Paris. A Funeral Service was held at Cedarview Evangelistic Centre, 20 Cedar Street, Paris on Saturday August 5th. Cremation followed the Funeral Service. In

Death of Francis Waugh Jnr
There passed peacefully away on Sunday, Feb 6th at the home of this son, JA Waugh, Adamsville, another pioneer of the Bruce Peninsula, in the person of Francis Waugh, at the age of 77 years and 3 months. He had been in ailing health for the last four years, and was confined to his bed for the past six months, and was a very patient sufferer
throughout his illness. He was born in the township of Caledon, Oct 22,
1849, and moved with his parents to the township of Wallace, when only four years old. When only a young man he came to the Township of Eastnor and took up land. On Dec 11th, 1872, he was united in marriage to Anne Watchorn, who predeceased him 18 months ago. He leaves to mourn his loss, two daughters and five sons: Mrs. Robt. Norman, Pasqua, Sask; Mrs. Wm Howe, Purple Valley; William, of Moose Jaw, Sask; Allan, of Adamsville, with whom he resided since the death of his wife; Thomas, of Weyburn, Sask; Alfred, of Hearst, Ont.; Ernest of Islay, Alta. Out of a family of ten, only one brother and one sister survive, namely, John, of Lion's head, and Mrs. James Donnelly, of Toronto. There are thirty five grandchildren and one great grandchild also. He moved with his family to McIver Settlement about thirty-four years ago. From there he moved to Wiarton, four years ago. He was a member of the United Church. The funeral, which was very largely attended, was held from his son's residence, on Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock, and was under the direction of the Orange Order, of which he was a member for the past sixty years. The service was conducted by RE. James, of Lion's Head, and Rev. OB. Strapp, of Cape Croker. The pall bearers were Messrs, Ed. Waugh, Harvey Hepburn, Clifford Waugh, Percy Howe, Harvey Crawford, Frank Howe.

Dear brother of Adam Roy (wife Pauline) of Kaboni. Especially missed by Molly. Dear daughter of the late Joseph and Antonia (Pangowish) Roy (both predeceased). Philomine, a woman of great knowledge which she shared through her birch bark, quill work and the oral stories of our past. She will be missed by all.
