This year, the Parry Sound North Star celebrated its 125th year in production, making it the longest running periodical in the District of Parry Sound. In 1998 as part of an archival project, the surviving copies of this newspaper, the majority of which are microfilmed, were reviewed and any notices of vital statistical importance were transcribed. Some of the very early editions are missing or damaged, however, from the surviving issues, over 2000 birth, marriage and death notices were reported in the first 30 years of publication alone. All instances of these, local and abroad, have been transcribed word for word as they originally appeared within the pages of Star Gazing. This first volume covers the period from 1874 to 1904. We plan to continue this project, publishing future volumes over the next few years.
