BORN
about 1777 in New York age given as
73 in 1850 Porter County Indiana Census
MARRIED
Margaret Ann (Peggy) ?
Les Dolson (Feb/97) states that she
was born 6 February 1782 in New York State Her
age given as 68 in 1850 census of Porter County Indiana,
and age 79 in 1860 Porter County census. Les Dolson (Feb/97) states that
Peggy died 26 January 1864 in Porter County IN.
DIED
Les Dolson (Feb/97) states Abraham
Dolson died 8 June 1857 in Porter County IND.
BURIED
U/K
CHILDREN
#1.1 * Sabrina born in US about 1803,
married John Gregory in US perhaps
1820 or so.
#1.2 * Abram Dolson Jr. born 5
September 1804. Died September 1882 buried Woodstock Baptist Cemetery Born New
York State (Ref #16)
#1.3 * Margaret Ann (Peggy) Dolson
born 1806 (1810 ref 1850 and 1860 Indiana Census) in New York State
#1.4 * Edward Silas Dolson (not
Edward J.) (born ? by 1815?) married Roxie J. Williams 16 February 1836,
Naturalized 1841 so likely born in New York State (His son Silas Dolson when
marrying for the second time in 1898 in Waterloo County On. gave his father's
name as Isaac Edward Dolson.)
a. It appears that Abram and his
family were in Oxford County in 1825 or before.
b. Whether Dau Peggy married 1826 or
before to Cornelius Eglin in New York or Ontario is not known.
c. The preamble of the Baptist Church
Cemetery records (Printed by Oxford County OGS) suggests that the Dolsons were
in Oxford by 1826 and maybe as soon as 1822.
d. Abram purchased the North West 1/4
(50 acres) Lot 5 Concession 12 (East) Zorra Oxford County Ont for 50 pounds from
Isaac Edwards described as a blacksmith on 4th July 1825 (the deed however was
not registered in the County registry office for an other 10 years on 2 March
1836 As # 2901)
e. None of the Dolsons or the Eglins
are listed in the militia Records of 1828 (See Ref # ) Comment Odd seeing that
many of the neighbours were as was Alanson Avery whose wife Nancy was a sister
of Cornelius Eglin
f.
Abram was in Zorra and
Naturalized in 1840. He gave his
occupation as a 'yeoman " but could not sign his name
g. Abram Sr was not a UEL. However
he was not found in the 1820 census of New York State so he may came before that
time.
h. land records indicate a patent to
Abram Dolson (Sr/Jr?) dated 1835 of North 1/2 of Lot 8 Concession 13 East Zorra
(no search done as yet)
It seems likely that Abram and his
wife moved to Porter County In about same time as his dau and son in law
Cornelius Eglin did that is between 1843 and 1845 (Freda Weirick says Jesse
Dolson moved to Porter County in 1843)
i. There were many Dolsons in Orange
County New York in the 1700's and were descendants of the Early Dutch Settlers.
j. page 75 of "the Trail of the
Black Walnut By G. Elmore Reaman pub 1957 states that the sons of Isaac Dolson
of Butlers Rangers were
Isaac, Daniel, Gilbert, Matthew (also
in Butlers Ranger's), Peter, Jacob and John (no Abram).
SABRINA
DOLSON
PARENTS
PRESUMED to be Abram Dolson and
Peggy? tho perhaps Samuel Dolson and Millicent Edwards
BORN
in US about 1803
MARRIED
John Gregory in US
perhaps 1820 or so.
DIED
CHILDREN
likely more children),
#1. Likely
Marilla Gregory who married John Osborn (both of Zorra) on 2 Dec 1849
Married by Rev Isaac Elliott , Baptist minister and Witnesses were John Williams
and Nelson Edwards
#2. likely Abraham W. Gregory born
about 1822 US
In the 1851 census an Abraham Gregory
age 30 with wife Margaret age 33 (born about 1819) was living next door to John
Gregory
(Thus it is presumed that Abraham was
John's son)
Abraham married Margaret Doughty on 6
January 1850 (It appears her maiden name was Osborn) married by Rev Elliot,
witnesses were Josiah Gregory and William Osburn.
In 1876 A.W. Gregory (presumably
Abraham) was living on Lot 17 Concession 10 East Zorra (Ref #11) He died 7
January 1879 age 59 years 1 month and 10 days and is buried in Vandicar Cemetery
(one might guess that Abraham's age was changed so that he did not appear
younger than this wife)
Margaret died 27 April 1903 age 84 years( G/S in Vandicar Cemetery reads
Margaret Osborn wife of late A.W. Gregory)
#3. likely Jonathon Gregory who was
born 29 October 1824 and died 27 April 1862
(buried Vandicar Cemetery)
He was married by Rev Elliot on 8
July 1855 to Susan Rosbery (both of Zorra)wit Warren Gregory and Margaret
Gregory)
#4. Polly born about 1834 Gregory in
Canada
#5. John born about 1841 Gregory in
Canada
1862 Oxford County Gazetteer gives
John (altho this might have been short for Jonathon) as living on Lot 17
Concession 10 East Zorra
a.
no Gregorys listed in the 1828 militia rolls of Oxford County. See
References
Altho positive proof has yet to be
found to state that Sabrina Gregory was a daughter of Abram Dolson there are
many similarities in the family names.

.2 Sebrina Dolson married James Burdick
(just where she fits in family is not know as I have not yet checked a
Census with them in it
1861 census next move)
They were living in Yankton County
South Dakota March 1882 and were likely there in 1880 (both signed their names
on a deed in the Elgin county Registry office) This family not found in 1871
Ontario Census index. 1871 East Zorra census Div 2 run thro as well no entries
for Burdick
.3 Ann L. Dolson born about 1834/5 in the US (1851 Census)(married age 19
in 1851 Census) age given as 36 born
Ontario in 1871 East Zorra Census and married Thomas Burgess on 7 July 1852
If however the notation in the 1851 census "born in US" is
correct as Abram DOLSON was naturalized in 1831 and if Ann was his daughter then
in all likelihood she would have been born in Canada. In 1871 census she said
she was born in Ontario. She was declared a child of Abram in a deed see after.
In
1871 East Zorra census she is list as age 36 with husband Thomas Burgess age 44
occupation farmer and children Miranda E born abt 1854, Betsy O. born abt 1856,
Horace E born abt 1859, Josephine born abt 1866 and Abraham W born abt 1868.
In the 1876 Oxford County Atlas, T.
Burgess is shown on the E 1/4 of Lot 7 Concession 12,
50 acres
In the 1881 census of East Zorra Anna
Burgess age 46 is listed as a widow with
children Josephine Burgess age 13 and Abraham W. Burgess age 12. Also living
with Anna was her mother Eliza Dolson age 68 widow.
She was listed on Deeds (1882) in the
Elgin County Registry office as Annie Burgess, widow
.4 Margaret Dolson born 1836 married Alexander Tree (1831-1914) living in
Blandford Township in 1880 and March 1882 (? How come she does not show up in
1851 census, she would have been only 15 yet her sister Anna does show at age 19
and then again maybe she was not a sister of Ann's ?? )

Lot 8 Concession 12 East Zorra 50 acres
Margaret died 1910 and both she and
Alexander are buried in the Woodstock Baptist Cemetery.
In
the 1828 Militia were Alexander B. Tree age 19 and Stephen Tree age 21
Abram Dolson was naturalized on 23
July 1831 in Zorra and gave his occupation as a "yeoman" He could not
sign his name.
He was living on Lot 5 Concession 11
East Zorra (50 acres) at the time of the 1861 Zorra agricultural census. In the
1876 Oxford County atlas he is shown living on NE 1/4 Lot 8 Concession 12 East

Abram
Dolson patented Lot 13 Concession 1 North of Road in 1858 and Lot 17 Concession

As
he died in East Zorra it is likely he sold the properties to others (no land
search done).
The above 4 children were described
as Abrams lawful heirs and only children in a deed in the Elgin Cty Registry
office re Lot 20 Concession 1 Bayham Twp. In the deed registered as #8251 (Bayham)
1880, it was stated that Abraham Dolson died intestate.
In December 1875 Henry Hill purchased Lot 20 Concession 1 from Colin
Munro, sheriff of Elgin County (Seized
property) 200 acres for $4500
In Feb 1876 Hill sold the property for $5000 to William Goddard
(I would wonder if Hill had any
intention of ever living on the property and had only purchased it to make a
dollar) 2 mortgages by Goddard, one
to Hill for $4000 and an other Hill
assigned his mortgage to Abram DOLSON in May 1876 and in Oct 1877.
Goddard assigned his interest in the property to DOLSON making him the
owner still with a mortgage. Just when Burdock
went to Dakota is not known. Hill must have gone to Dakota between 1877 and
1880.
Property
values in Ontario plummeted and the sisters Jane Hill and Sabrina Burdock
assigned their interests to Annie Burgess and Margaret Tree.
Alex Tree defaulted on the other
mortgage and at a auction sale (March 1882) he purchased the property for $ 2250
and shortly after sold it for $2200. (Ontario was in the severe depression in
the late 1870's and early 1880's and the family were one of the victims!)

James and his descendants are
detailed in the Eglin Family history by RGM
To Date no references to Cornelius
other than his baptism have been found in New York State.
It appears that Cornelius was in
Oxford County by 1826 or before altho no record of his marriage has yet been
found.
Cornelius received a receipt dated September 1834 from the Commissioner
of Crown Lands for payment of 7 1/2 Pounds as the first instalment for South 1/2
of Lot 6 Concession 12 East Zorra Township Oxford County. The total price of the
100 acre parcel was to be 75 pounds to be paid (plus interest at 6 % in 10
yearly installments with the first payment due in 17 September 1835
He
transferred this property to John Bailley in ? (to be checked)
He
was in Zorra Township Oxford County Ontario on 2 March 1836 when he along with
his brother Thomas and witnessed a memorial of sale of Land from Samuel Dolson
to Jesse Dolson (Lot 5 Concession 11 East Zorra Township that occurred on 5
October 1835 (Registered as #2902 in the County of Oxford Land Registry office)
At the time both Cornelius and his
brother were described as Mechanics and both signed their names.
Cornelius also purchased Lot 25 Concession 11 East Zorra Township in
January 1836, on similar terms to his purchase in Lot 6 with 15 pounds down and
10 years to pay.
He transferred this property to Charles Thacher Tucker for an
unstipulated amount in April 1836.
(Charles Tucker transferred it to
John Rowell in January 1838)
He purchased property in East Zorra
by Deed #4165 from Cyrus Dibble and sold by Deed # 4166 to A. (Abram) Dolson in
the time frame 1850-2 (Land Registry to be checked) (the above are copy book
numbers)
It was very likely that A. Dolson was
Abram Dolson, his brother-in-law (RGM speculation).
Cornelius
was shown on the Naturalization Records (given British citizenship) in Oxford as
having signed the affidavit of Allegiance on 17 March 1841. He gave his
residence as East Oxford Township and his occupation as a carpenter and signed
his own name. To be naturalized, one was supposed to be in Canada for seven
years. (the methods for proving this seem to be somewhat obscure if any even
existed)
Also naturalized in 1839-40-41 were
Edward, Jesse and 2 Abraham Dolsons
Cornelius
appears in Centre Township Porter County Indiana in the 1850 Census, age 48
and the census show that the youngest child, James Monroe Eglin (Born
November 1845) was born in Indiana.
However Margaret age 7 in the 1850
census was born in Canada (Oxford County).
Thus
one assumes that Cornelius went to Indiana between 1843 and late 1845.
He
is listed as a farmer in 1850 census of Porter County and as a miller, age 58,
in the 1860 census of Porter County. By 1860 James was the only child still at
home, tho daughter Margaret and husband William Ferguson lived next door.
In
1860 census of Porter County Indiana, Margaret Dolson (presumably his mother-in
law, age 79 is living with Cornelius Eglin.
