Books specific to StratfordThere are many books about Stratford. Here are some of them:
Stratford Around and About is a book I came across with lots of local information. It's by Ellen Stafford, and was published in 1972 by Fanfare Books, Stratford.
Floodtides of Fortune by Adelaide Leitch, 1980, seems to be a rather easy to find book in Ontario, and available in many public libraries.
Scenic Stratford is by Eric and Madeline Ferguson.
A book with tons of great photos is A Stratford Album by Mary Jane Lennon, published in 1985 by the Boston Mills Press, Erin Mills, Ontario. It contains pictures of people and places, and lots of photos of historic buildings which are no longer standing.
Pioneers and Prominent People
W. S. and Hugh Johnston's book says that the first settler in Stratford was William Sergeant, who arrived in 1832 with his family from Clonmel, County Tipperary, Ireland.
Prominent Person: It was Tom Patterson who set up the Stratford Festival, which began its yearly performances in 1952. One of the theaters in which the Festival is held is named after him. Many well-known Canadian actors got started in their acting careers at the Stratford Festival.
