VI Brigade II Can. Contingent

British Exped'y Force

Army P.O. London Eng.

Oct. 30. 1915

Dear Mrs. Johnston,

It is my sad duty to tell you that I laid to rest this morning the human remains of Pte Roy J. Johnston. He was killed instantly yesterday by the bursting of a shell. Both the officers and men of his regiment extend to you their sincere sympathy. The Colonel and a large number of others were with us in the little cemeteries near the regimental head quarters.

The pioneers will erect a simple wooden cross which can be replaced at some future time. The Cemetery is one which the French and Belgian governments have promised for all time to care for. How the infinite sorrows and losses of this struggle make us realize that this life is but a little while Yonder in the Fathers House of many mansions shall we meet to part no more, may He comfort the many bereaved ones as only He can.

Yours very faithfully,

C. C. Owen, Major

Chaplain VI Brigade.
