A searchable database of the 1881 Census is available. The 1881 Canadian Census Project was a collaboration between the Institute of Canadian Studies, University of Ottawa and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to prepare a 100 per cent sample of the 1881 Canadian census. The editing and final revisions are being coordinated by Lisa Dillon of the Institute of Canadian Studies and volunteers are being sought to assist with this.
A searchable database of the 1901 Census is also available, and includes the added features of allowing users to submit corrections and report themselves as researchers or descendants of individuals.
Pontiac County originally had 17 townships. By 1966 an additional nine townships had been proclaimed. In May 1966 Quebec designated 85 more townships to fill in the interior of the county (Kennedy, 1970, p 237). As of this date the author can identify only the first 25 of the 26. The 26th may be one of Church, Dorion, or Edwards townships. The census reports two township names (Aberford and Stanhope) which was only used in 1861. The 1891 Census include areas such as Dumel, Guigues, and Laverlochère. The Pontiac County Census records up to 1891 did not include Church, Dorion, Eddy, Edwards, and Gillies townships. Eardley township is in Gatineau and Hull Counties.
Beginning with the 1901 Census many of the townships were grouped into larger units. See the table below.
