Hugh, I am a local author compiling a book on the history and development
of the small SD&G Counties' cheddar cheese factories. Lyall Manson told me
you were looking for a closing date for the Cornwall Cheese and Butter Board.
I too was looking for when the butter boards ceased to exist. I don't know
about each particular one but I found this info from a book at the Upper
Canada village library. It is called The Story of the Development of the
Dairy Inspection Branch put out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food as
part of their centennial celebration in 1988.
This is not a quote but my notes from there read that in 1951 the ontario
Cheese Producers' Marketing board began to market all cheddar cheese sold
outside of Ontario. All other sales were to be made through 6 exchanges in
the Province. This replaced the former cheese boards. I assume the Cornwall
Board was active at that time but I don't know for sure. Hope this helps a
bit.

Ps What a great project!

I have just found from Rhodes Grant's book, Horse and Buggy Days in
Martintown, that the Cornwall board was closed in the 1920's. He says: "It
was in the 1920's that a Co-op movement began to gain strength. It was
inspired by the success of Aaron B. Sapiro and his Sunkist Oranges and
Raisins ventures in California. An attempt was made to organize a Cheese
Pool in Ontario but it failed to get off the ground. However a co-operative
company was formed to handle the cheese business. One of the first things
it did was to close the Cornwall Cheese and Butter Board."
Now other county boards lasted longer because I have run across it in the
papers and somewhere I found that the cornwall Board was still operating in
1943, so go figure!
I am not sure anymore which date is right but I will keep my eye peeled for
any more dates on this.
