Church Records
There are church records available throughout the Counties as well as in various church archives.
The Ottawa City Archives has an extensive collection also. The usual fires and ravages of time
have resulted in many gaps however. Most church archives can tell you what is available and where
it is located. Some records have been published in recent years and others are available
on National Archive and LDS microfilm reels, including:

Land Records
Pre-Confederation (pre-1867) records are at the Ontario Archives in Toronto.
1868-1950 Original Records are no longer kept by the government. They are now
kept at the Sir John Johnson House in Williamstown (Glengarry);
The French Genealogical Society in Cornwall (Stormont);
and the Morrisburg Library (Dundas).

Maps and Place Names
In 1862, the Wallings Company published a large wall map showing most properties and owners.
It covers SD&G as well as Prescott and Russell Counties. An 1879 atlas produced by H. Belden
and Company is similar to the above wall map but in book form. It covers SD&G only and includes
an historical sketch of each township as well as a directory.

The National Archives of Canada has a collection of Cornwall and area 19th century newspapers
and the SD&G Historical Society has some in their archives.
The Cornwall Public Library

This bilingual research centre has a huge collection to help you trace your
French-Canadian ancestors. The centre is located in the former Nativity
School on Chevrier Ave, off McConnell (visit the website for directions).
They are open weekdays 1 pm to 4 pm as well as Wednesday evenings from 7 pm to 9 pm.
Membership for a year is $25 - a small price to access the rooms full of the
information they possess.
