This isn't really a genealogy question, but I figured someone
visiting this site might know enough about the region to answer.
I am researching an artifact and need some help!
It is a tobacco cutter, and it has these words printed on it:
"Wellington Tobacco Cutter Guelph". Does anyone know what
company could have produced this? Was there a company in Guelph named
'Wellington' or is this a reference to Wellington County? I'm
having a hard time finding any info on this . . .

65 THOMAS
Robert
Thomas was killed in 1896 while trying to escape from a whaling ship in
the Beaufort Sea to the Yukon gold mines. His father worked for the Bell
organ company in Guelph. He many have come from elsewhere in Ontario as
his own organ company had gone bankrupt a few years earlier. Robert had a
sister named "Maggie" and a brother Charles. Robert was born in 1874, but
I'm not sure where. I'm writing about Robert's death, but know almost
nothing about his Ontario roots. If I can get a thread of early family
history, it may be possible to trace descendants of Charles and Maggie.
Do
you have someone who could help me navigate the databases. Would be happy
to pay for services. Thank you!!! Walter V.

who arrived in Pilkington about 1824-1828 according to the history books.
I am looking for any information on this couple of when they came to
Canada and what John and Mary birthdates are. John should be somewhere
about 1781 and Mary's. I know they came from England and that they
probably got married in 1806. There was about 10 in the family but they
may have come over with relatives. Some were born in England. I have
some of the children's names. I think James and Phoebe may have been
related but I havne't been able to find them on a passenger list yet. I
think they may have going into the states first and then come to Canada
but not sure. I also think Mary ended up in Acton and spent her last
days there. Thank you for any info you have.

116 HUNTER
I am trying to assist two cousins of mine in tracing their family
tree. Their grandmother was Annie Mabel Hunter born May 1891 who married
James "Russell" McIntosh. I found an Annie Hunter in Toronto in the 1901
census living close to the McIntosh family who seems to fit, tracing this
Hunter family from Toronto in 1901 to Guelph, Wellington Co., in 1881
leads me to believe she was the daughter of Daniel Hunter and his wife
Rebecca, and sister to George B. Hunter born Cir. 1872, James D. Hunter
born Cir. 1873, William B. Hunter born Cir.1879, Charles W. Hunter born
Cir. 1880, Mary J. R. Hunter born Cir. 1882, Ethel Hunter born Cir. 1886,
Alexander M. Hunter born Cir. 1888. When Annie married in 1916 in
Toronto, the write up said her mother was living on Roxton Road in
Toronto and refers to her brother as A. M. Hunter, B.A. B.Sc.and one
sister had married an Axworthy. Posted on Tue Aug

120 North, Wood, Secord
I'm researching a couple who were married in Ancaster,
Gore District. They were married in 1818--John North, Widower
& Charlotte Wood. They were in Puslinch in 1842 & were
Members of the Methodist Church.
I seem to get nowhere with either Family as to their Parents.
I believe Charlotte's Parents were maybe buried in the Ancaster
area. John North was born in PA in 1785 according to Family
History.
Thanks for any help. Charlotte Wood was born in Canada.
She was buried in the Palmerstown Cemetery but don't have
her Death date. Under her married name of North.

122 FARMER, GALBRAITH
My ancestors John and Mary (Hamill) Farmer with their son William
and his wife Mary (Galbraith) farmed on the 5th Conc. in West Garafraxa.
This land was purchased in the mid 1870's. We know the family originated
in Armaugh, Ireland and then went to Glasgow, Scotland before coming to
Canada. We have been unable to trace the Farmers or Galbraiths in
Ireland. We have traced the Hamill family to Issac and Isabela Hamill.
John was supposedly lost in a drowning accident but no records have been
found. Mary Galbraith died in 1883 and is buried in the Arthur Cemetery
on hwy. 9. The family moved to Owen Sound some time in the 1890s. Help
with information would be greatly appreciated.

124 FRENCH and other Aynho, Northamptonshire, settlers
I wanted to post this note for Wellington County researchers with
English ancestors; it would have helped me if I'd ever found one like it!
People with surnames like Borton, Boulding, Bye, Chadbone, Churley,
Elkerton, Elkington, Ford, Hall, Homer, Howse, King, Lasby, Peckover,
Wing – and French (my own ancestors). Have recently discovered that
squire William Ralph Cartwright, a reformer and extensive landowner in
south-west Northamptonshire, settled many, many dozens of his surplus
agricultural labourers in Wellington County between the late 1820s and
his death in 1847. If you're lost for an English connection, and have
anyone born after statutory registration begins, try checking your
ancestors in the Brackley registration district, as it includes
Aynho. Posted on Wed Nov 16 13:06:32 2005
