Aurora Banner has, very recently, become the Era-Banner when it was amalgamated with the Newmarket Era. The Banner began in 1861. Marriage and death notices have been indexed and are available for search for a small fee at both Aurora Public Library and Aurora Museum. The index has also been made into a book.
Index to Marriage and Death notices in the Aurora Banner, 1864-1969, Aurora and District Historical Society, 1995. This book is a name index to marriage announcements and obituaries of Aurora. Once you find a name in the index, you can write to Aurora Museum and get the actual notice. If your ancestors lived in Aurora, this book is invaluable. It can be purchased from the Toronto Branch OGS.
The Markham Economist and Sun
Used to be two separate papers; the Economist began in 1856 and the Sun in 1881. An index covering the years 1856-1940 is available at the Markham Museum.
The Newmarket Era
Recently amalgamated with the Aurora Banner to form the Era-Banner. The Era began in 1852 and has been indexed for births, deaths and marriages at Newmarket Public Library: the index covers mainly 1852-1924.
Began in 1888. Whitchurch-Stouffville Library has a partial index.
