York Region branch members are invited to submit surnames they are researching so that others may contact them and compare notes. Submissions by e-mail are encouraged to facilitate the process. Please follow these guidelines carefully and refer to the sample below when composing your message (you could "copy and paste" the sample into the body of your e-mail, then change the text where appropriate).

Follow these simple steps to add your surnames:

1. Address your e-mail to York Region Branch, OGS at york@ogs.on.ca .
2. The subject of your e-mail should read "York Region Member Surnames"
3. List your name, membership information, contact information and website (if applicable) as outlined in the sample below. Only your name, e-mail address and website URL will be published online. 
4. You may submit up to 10 surnames that you are researching anywhere in the world.
5. List your surnames alphabetically and type surnames in capitals, identify any spelling variations with a slash, e.g. SMITH/SMYTH.
6. Identify the timeframe you are researching, e.g. 1750-1920, or bef 1830, or 1652+.
7. Identify location(s). Separate places with commas. Use " > " to identify migratory patterns. Please refer to the Roots Surname List Country Abbreviations for a full explanation of province/state/county, and country codes. 
8. Your surnames will be included in the next monthly update. Please check back in about 4 weeks to ensure they have been listed correctly.
