York County Men & Women Who Gave Their Lives in World War II
York County, Ontario, including the City of Toronto
Compiled by Norman Jolly

York County Men & Women Who Gave Their Lives in World War II, including the City of Toronto, compiled by Norman JollyA set of three books: Book 1, A-F; Book 2, G-M; Book 3, N-A; Softcover, ISBN 0-7779-1674-6 (set). Published by the York Region Branch, Ontario Genealogical Society, Richmond Hill, Ontario, 2006

These books contain the names of thousands of servicemen and women from York County, including the City of Toronto, and others in a still larger area from Port Credit in the west, north to Bradford and Uxbridge, and to Pickering and Ajax in the East.

The alphabetical arrangement of names simplifies searching, and the short biographies are of great interest to family historians. Information can include: surname, rank, given names; awards received; date and place of death, or date when reported missing; cause of death; place of burial; age and place of birth; when enlisted, units to which the person belonged; names of wife, children and their residence; other next of kin with relevant information; where educated; type or place of employment before enlistment; membership in church, other organizations and personal interests; training and military experience; messages from Chaplain, military superiors, or good friends; location of memorial or marker; and memorial service held.

Biographical information has been taken from the Toronto Daily Star, Aurora Banner, Lansing Enterprise, Markham Economist, Newmarket Era, Richmond Hill Liberal, Stouffville Tribune, Weston Times and Guide, OGS Cemetery Records, plaques, memorials and other sources. All sources of information are clearly identified.

This genealogical reference is a continuation of Volume I (York County) and Volume II (City of Toronto) compiled previously for World War I. World War II names from Toronto City and from York County have been gathered in one volume (3 books) due to municipal boundary changes.
