THE NATIONAL SOCIETY OF THE DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded on October 11, 1890, and was incorporated by an Act of Congress in 1896. It is a volunteer service organization of women with over 170,000 members and over 2950 chapters in all 50 states and internationally. Any woman who is no less than eighteen years of age and can prove lineal, blood line descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence is eligible for membership.

There are three main objectives of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution: Historical - to perpetuate the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved American Independence; Educational - to carry out the injunction of Washington in his farewell address to the American people, "to promote, as an object of primary importance, institutions for the general diffusion of knowledge, thus developing an enlightened public opinion..." and Patriotic - to cherish, maintain and extend the institutions of American freedom, to foster true patriotism and love of country, and to aid in securing for mankind all the blessings of liberty.

These objectives are achieved through the work of the Society. There are many, many areas of service to our country in which the members of the NSDAR participate. From museums and schools to veteran's services and environmental awareness programs, the members of the NSDAR are involved in their communities, states, and on a national level.

Please visit the websites at our State and National NSDAR headquarters for further information about the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
