The Alpine Cemetery is located immediately north of the town of Alpine and on the west side of Bellfountain Road. However, the cemetery entrance is from a long gravel lane located on the north side of Alpine Road, about one-tenth of a mile west of the Bellfountain Road intersection. The cemetery, originally called "Simpson's Chapel Cemetery" is located on the Jesse BELKNAP Donation Land Claim. The earliest marked grave is that of Jane HOWARD (2 March 1851), wife of William HOWARD. It is possible that burials were made at an earlier date. The cemetery location suggests that it may originally have been the Belknap family burial plot. In 1896 the cemetery was platted with Benton County as the Simpson's Chapel Cemetery. Cemetery representatives at that time included S.R. HAWLEY, Robert KYLE, S.A. THARP and G.W. HOWARD. In 1904 Simpson's Chapel, originally located between Alpine and Bellfountain, moved to Alpine. The new church, located on Alpine Road just south of the cemetery, burned down in he early 1970's. The cemetery is still in use today.
