ALSEA CEMETERY

Benton County, OR

 T.14 S    R.8 W    S.I   NWX

Enumerated on 14 September 1988

The ALSEA CEMETERY is located  off Highway #34, about  three quarters of a mile  west of the  town, on the  North side of  the highway.  It  is  the  largest cemetery  in  southwestern  Benton County and the only  one in the county  supported by a tax levy. It is still used and well cared for.

The Alsea Cemetery  Association was formed  in 1905 and  the land officially platted in 1908, but the cemetery was in use many years before  that.  Although  the  earliest gravestone  date  is 1858, there is a possibility there were earlier burials.

The order presented is as we found the stones in the cemtery. We feel it is more valuable to be able to see who is buried next to whom, and therefore glean some info about family groupings.
