First activity in this vicinity was visit of Fr. J. CROKE in 1853. On 19 August he wrote "I found___
old O’REILLY on his claim 14 miles south of Marysville. I celebrated the first mass ever heard in __

Organized 1860. The congregation in 1861, met in a building erected on north-west corner of
Adams and Fourth Sts. The structure was moved to an adjoining lot, remodeled and is now used
for a Parish house. The present building was dedicated in 1912.
Architecture is Mission type; a buildings with belfry and bell; constructed in concrete
and finished in stucco. The windows picture the Virgin Mary and St. Benedict.
In the interior fourteen plaster reliefs show the passions of Christ. The first resident Clergyman
was Andre J. POULIN, 1860-1863. The present pastor is Father John Mitchell.
Church minutes kept by Bishop in Portland. Register (baptisms, confirmations, marriages,
members, deaths), 1861 ... 2 Vol. kept by pastor, other records in parish records of Albany
Church.
Monroe, South Main Street.
Organized in 1877 as a mission under the care of Corvallis until Eugene was
created a parish. The congregation purchased a building in 1877 and worshipped
there until the present structure was dedicated 29 April 1883, by Archbishop CHRISTIE.
The first resident priest was Father G. VAN LIN, 1881-1888.
Before 1914, church records in possession of parish priest at Albany; 1914-1936
in possession of parish priest at Eugene.
Corvallis, 4th and Adam’s Sts.
Building erect in 1861, has been moved to adjoining lot and remodeled
for parish house. Present church built in 1912. First settled clergyman, Andre Z. POULIN
Tenure, 1860-1863. Present pastor, Father John MITCHELL . Church records complete, 1861 to

Organized 1877. as a mission under the care of Corvallis until Eugene was created a
parish. The congregation purchased a building in 1877 and worshipped there until the present
structure was dedicated 29 April 1883 by Archbishop CHRISTIE. Architecture is American
type; a plain rectangular frame structure "50 by 80 ft," with tall steeple and bell; ordinary
windows. The first resident priest was Father F. VAN LIN, 1881-1888
Church minutes. records kept in Bishops’ office at Portland. Register (baptisms,
confirmations, marriages, members, deaths), before 1914 in possession of parish priest at
Eugene. Published histories or sketches I-R forms in Daily Gazette Times. 5 May, 1905,
18 March and 27 April 1933.
